Disgraced former Canton Police Chief Helena Rafferty suffered the Major L of a Karen Read acquittal, but she’s also having her own personal troubles as she’s being sued by the elderly man she hit in a crosswalk in February of 2024. The man was walking with a cane and wearing a yellow reflective vest in Wrentham, but Rafferty claims she didn’t see him while driving her Canton Police town issued Ford SUV.

The victim, 67 year old Michael Barry, spent weeks in a Rhode Island hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation while undergoing 9 surgeries, is still struggling every day. Court filings show that his hospital bills exceed $211K.

Rafferty attempted to hide this from the media and the taxpayers of Canton, but after being outed on Turtleboy she issued a milquetoast public statement.
However, according to recent court filings Run em Down Rafferty is attempting to escape personal responsibility and have the lawsuit thrown out by claiming to have immunity because she was acting in her capacity as Canton Police Chief when she struck the victim with her SUV.

Rafferty claims she was on duty because she was on her way to TJ Maxx in Plainville making work related phone calls, and once she arrived at TJ Maxx she sent work related emails in the parking lot.

However, she has provided no documentation in the form of phone records or emails showing that she was making work related phone calls and writing work related emails at that time.

Rafferty admitted in her public statement that she was driving from TJ Maxx in Plainville to her home in Norfolk, neither of which is near Canton, which means she wasn’t on her way to work.

She also claims that she doesn’t have a personal vehicle, and only drives her town issued car.

First of all, the fact that someone who gets paid as much as her doesn’t have to buy her own car, and instead gets a free one from the taxpayers to use for personal business, is ridiculous. But what about those cars we saw parked outside her $1.8 million, 7K foot mansion?

According to RMV records several of those personal vehicles. She has an explanation for that though – they’re for her kids only. She doesn’t drive them.

Run em Down Rafferty claims to be on call 24/7 because she’s just that important. She has mentally ill people trying to kill themselves who text her for some reason, and she sends the SWAT team to save their lives. She routinely wakes up at 3 AM in a cold sweat just to make sure if the community needs her.

Apparently being on the job 24/7 and waking up in the middle of the night isn’t something her friend Brian Albert does. Only Canton cops, not Boston cops.
But there’s nothing in her contract about being on call 24/7.

And as Mr. Barry’s Attorney Seth Jacobs points out, the only person she was serving at the time of striking the victim was herself.
