Yesterday 5 Stones Intelligence published their complete 206 page audit of the Canton Police Department, which was voted at a November 2023 Special Town Meeting as a result of a grassroots, citizen driven initiative spurned on by the piss poor investigation into John O’Keefe’s murder. Although the report is slightly critical of CPD, it is mostly paints the police as victims and doesn’t address a plethora of glaring issues with the Canton Police Department.

Canton-Report-April-1-2025 (1)

The light criticism of the investigation into OJO’s death included the fact that the crime scene was not photographed, named witnesses Jennifer McCabe, Kerry Roberts, Brian Albert, and Nicole Albert were not interviewed on camera at the Canton Police Department, Sally port footage was not turned over, and police left the crime scene unattended for 10 hours after discovering OJO’s body.

Other than the report is nothing but a cry fest, allowing unnamed Canton Police Officers to complain about how nobody likes them.

The report says that there is a lack of support for CPD from elected officials, and that “influencers who are primarily motivated by financial gain” fabricate sensational stories without adhering to journalistic standards, in pursuit of fame and viewership:

  1. What on earth would Canton Police Officers know about journalistic standards? What training do they have in journalism?
  2. How can this report, authored by 5 Stones CEO Brian Tallay, reach the conclusion that influencers are reporting on the Karen Read case primarily for financial gain? That is an opinion, and one with no evidence to back it up.
  3. No stories were fabricated. People are rightfully criticizing the Canton Police for their well documented Keystone Cop handling of a murder investigation.
  4. There is no “lack of support from elected officials.” Chris Albert, a member of the Select Board, has a “we support Canton Police” sign in his business window.
  5. The entire Canton Select Board voted against the audit, and John Connolly immediately stood up and objected when the votes to audit were counted. In the same report that alleges CPD doesn’t receive support from elected officials, Connolly said that he fully supports the police department.

The report frequently refers to me as a “social media figure” and falsely accuses me of leaving a disrespectful voicemail for the wife of a CPD officer. Elizabeth Proctor is not the wife of ANY police officer, never mind a CPD Officer. Additionally, the report alleges that I harassed an officer at a Patriots football game, and that Helena Rafferty has been “harassed” while collecting overtime from the club seats at Gillette Stadium.

In reality, Michael Lank was not “harassed” by me at a Patriots game. While I was getting a beer I noticed he was standing a few feet away from me so I took a selfie and posted it to Twitter. I said “Hey Lankah,” and he looked at me and seemed confused about who I was. So I said, “it’s Turtleboy,” at which point he nodded his head “no” and walked away. That was the entire extent of our interaction.

The report includes quotes from anonymous officers, all of whom cry about how no one cares about them and everyone wants them to be murdered.

What, if anything, does any of this have to do with an audit of the police department?

“It’s going to get one of us killed.”

Be more dramatic – you can’t. I assure you, holding government officials accountable is not going to get anyone killed.

“They have no political platform, just trash the police.”

Policing is a political issue.

“Elected officials don’t care about us.”

The entire select board voted against the audit and one of them has a “support CPD sign” in his store.

“The easiest way to get elected is to trash us.”

Rita Lombardi lost.

“I wanted to be a Canton Police Officer since I can remember.”

The fact that there are so many officers on CPD whose lifelong goal was to grow up and become a Canton Police Officer is part of the problem.

“If I die on this job will the town continue to harass my wife and kids.”

No one is harassing your wife and kids. Stop hiding behind children when people offer up legitimate criticism of taxpayer funded government servants.

“There’s much more money being offered in other towns.”

Lt. Paul Gallagher made over $300K in his final year on the job, which included overseeing the most botched murder investigation of all time.

There are endless complaints in the report about how officers are being “attacked” by criticism of their policing, and how it has affected their morale.

Boo-hoo. Get a new job if you can’t handle public criticism.

The report included a picture of me outside Norfolk Superior Courthouse smiling at Chief Rafferty. The caption reads, “a social media figure confronts Chief Rafferty.”

This is a lie. I was standing at the bottom of the stairs waiting to go into court when Chief Rafferty walked down the stairs and glared menacingly at me. I smiled back, but neither of us said a word. There was no confrontation. I contacted Matt Germanwoski, the Director and CFE of 5 Stones Intelligence, asking him to correct this error. He told me that confront means “face to face in hostile or defiant way,” so he wouldn’t be changing the word.

But the definition of confront is to, “meet (someone) face to face with hostile or argumentative intent.”

  1. I didn’t go there to meet Chief Rafferty; I went there to report on the Karen Read case.
  2. I had no idea she would be there, as she has never come to a hearing before, so it’s not plausible that I went to the hearing to meet her.
  3. Matt Germanowski wasn’t there, didn’t speak with me, and thus would have no idea what my intent was.

He’s just another conehead hack, who will likely frame this completely legitimate criticism of his defamatory statements as an “attack” in an attempt to victimize himself. It’s what they’ve all been trained to do.

The report includes screenshots of “social media posts alleging conspiracy and corruption,” including a picture of me arguing with Grant Smith-Ellis outside of court, with no comments at all about corruption or conspiracy.

More importantly, why are they trying to make it seem like a bad thing that people are alleging corruption? Why is the problem in Canton the people who are reporting the corruption, and not the people who are perpetuating it?

It also includes pictures of mostly women, along with commentary suggesting these people are bad because they’re “mocking” a government agent who makes over $200K a year and is openly biased towards the Commonwealth.

The text message to Chief Rafferty is completely unverified, and not illegal.

The report goes out of its way to make excuses for Detective Tim Taylor leaving his dog in a hot car, leading to the dog’s death.

It suggests that Tom Keleher should’ve recused himself from the investigation into OJO’s death because he was friends with the McAlberts. Keleher is the same guy who never turned over Ring camera footage which would’ve shown Karen Read running John O’Keefe over with her car. Additionally, if Keleher should’ve recused himself because he “knew the Albert family,” then why didn’t Michael Lank, Sean Goode, and the countless other members of the department who knew the McAlberts?

The report makes it seem like the biggest problem afflicting the police department is accountability, and wrongly states as fact that there was no probable cause to obtain a search warrant for Brian Albert’s house because they had no information that O’Keefe entered the house.

  1. John O’Keefe had one shoe on. The assumption had to be that his other shoe was inside the homeowner’s house upon whose property his dead body was found.
  2. Karen Read told police she dropped him off there.
  3. Jennifer McCabe told police he was invited there.

Regardless, police would have no idea if there was probable cause to obtain a search warrant because they didn’t apply for one. A judge makes that decision. Police applied for search warrants to search my house because of comments I made on YouTube. They applied for and got a warrant for my bank and car payment records on a hunch that Karen Read bribed me with a Lexus to commit witness intimidation on her behalf. They got a warrant for Rich Schiffer’s car because he dropped rubber ducks around town. It seems like they can get a warrant for just about anything, so a dead cop on your front lawn might qualify too. But they’d have to actually apply for a search warrant to find out, and there are no penalties for applying for a warrant and not getting one.

The report praises CPD for their “innovative” use of a leaf blower to search the crime scene, because it was instrumental in finding evidence around his body.

Yet the police are alleging that despite this innovative use of a leaf blower Lt. Gallagher completely missed 47 pieces of bright red taillight that State Police found 10 hours later under 20 inches of snow in complete darkness.

The report admonishes peaceful protesters for holding protests outside Canton Police Department, which affects morale.

God forbid.

The report further goes on to blame and villainize concerned citizens for filing public records requests because it causes a significant burden on the police.

Newsflash – the police are public servants, and public records are available to the public under the law. The public has a right to be concerned about the police budget since they are the ones funding it.

Chris Albert, who illegally audio records citizens walking along Washington Street, and who threatened to beat my face up and down the sidewalk, was also portrayed as a victim of harassment in the report.

Finally, the report notes that the CPD cameras can preserve 800 days worth of recordings, which completely flies in the face of the lie that footage of Karen Read’s car auto-deleted after 30 days.

Here’s a list of things that didn’t appear in the CPD audit:

What percentage of cops in Canton grew up in Canton?

A huge problem is that the police department knows all the townies and is inclined to protect them. They all grew up together and have strong ties, which is exactly why Brian Albert felt he would never be a suspect after a dead body was discovered on his front lawn.

Duck investigation

Detective Tim Taylor spent 6 months investigating legally protected speech on rubber duckies because it hurt Chris Albert’s feelings. Perhaps his time could’ve better been spent alleviating the work of fulfilling public records requests CPD was burdened with.

Canton 9

No mention of the fact that CPD tried and failed to press felony witness intimidation charges on 9 peaceful protesters holding signs on a public street – something they had allowed me to do 3 times. A clerk magistrate found no probable cause, indicating that CPD has no idea what probable cause actually is. No recommendations were made in the report for increased training on what PC is.

Kevin Albert

There is no mentioning of why Kevin Albert personally introduced Katie McLaughlin to Michael Proctor on January 30 despite CPD being conflicted off of the OJO investigation. Nor is there any mention of Albert being reprimanded for day drinking while on duty with Proctor and leaving his gun and badge in Proctor’s car.

Not finding any tail light

Not one of the 5 CPD Officers at Brian Albert’s house saw a single piece of taillight. Either their officers are blind and incompetent, or there was no taillight there. It can’t be both.

Ken Berkowitz endorsed Chris Albert for political office, and several members of the police department donated to his political campaign.

This wasn’t mentioned.

Ken Berkowitz asking a reporter to remove a tweet pointing out that OJO’s body was found on Brian Albert’s front lawn because Albert was a “pillar of the community.”

Canton Cover-Up Part 7: Former Canton Police Chief Ken Berkowitz Pressured Reporter To Take Down Tweet Mentioning Brian Albert’s Name On Day Karen Read Was Arrested

Helena Rafferty never reported that she hit an elderly man in a crosswalk in February 2024.

Seems relevant.

The report says there was nothing police did wrong with the Sandra Birchmore investigation.

Multiple sources called Canton Police to tell them that Mattew Farwell raped and impregnated Sandra Birchmore, and was the last person to see her alive.

Why did Brian Higgins have an office at CPD?

He should’ve been a suspect in OJO’s death, but instead was allowed to move cars around drunk at 1:30 AM and then spend the entire next day at CPD because Ken Berkowitz had a man crush on him.

Dropping charges against a woman who threw an egg at a 5 year old boy, and not alerting the boy’s mother.

At the Rolling Rally a McAlbert supporter named Diana White launched an egg out of her car that hit the 5 year old son of Jennifer Hartford, who lodged a complaint afterwards. Police never alerted her to the clerk’s hearing, and blamed her when they dropped the charges. Jennifer Hartford found out about this by reading the Canton Citizen.

Allowing the Rolling Rally

Police were well aware that I was holding a peaceful rolling rally on July 22, 2023. They allowed the rolling rally to take place and ordered all police to stay far away from the justice supporters. Afterwards Chief Rafferty alleged that this was “witness intimidation,” despite the fact that she allowed it to take place in her town and did nothing to protect the “victims” of the “intimidation.” There was not a single call to police to report criminal activity at the rolling rally.

There’s probably a lot more they didn’t cover in this fake “audit,” but the fact of the matter is that the Canton Police Department is a corrupt institution filled with grown cry babies who are disgrace to police officers everywhere.

  1. Thank you for highlighting this absolute fuckery. What an absolute joke. They paid $200k for this?!?

What does the alleged “harassment” and negative public connotation have to do with the integrity/proper policing in the town of Canton? Nothing.

Just more of the same “brotherhood” protecting one another. And the current officers crying about losing the public trust? Cry me a fucking river. How about some of you pussies grow a pair and speak up for what is right? We all know that will never happen.

Where is the part of the report that highlights what NOT to do when the chief of police runs over an elderly pedestrian with their town issued police vehicle?

I’ll tell you what… I was never one of these “abolish the police” people, but man those lunatics might have actually been onto something…

    1. Interesting to observe other judge’s courtrooms in Norfolk County and see police departments and MSP officers following correct procedures. Corrupt officials knew exactly how to frame Ms. Read by manufacturing evidence and deleting metadata.

  2. Case in point ….when they can’t defend their own actions, they vilify citizens who exercise free speech.Per the usual, they give no regard to the trauma this causes and the retriggering to the community as a whole. Distraction is a strategic move, not a solution, not an answer to the questions MA residents have about why decency, accountability, and respect is not a non-negotiable in how the execute their professional duties. Commonwealth: do better.

  3. There needs to be benchmarks established and oversight to bring Canton PD into compliance with minimum standards of acceptable police work. More importantly the citizens need to feel “protected and served” by law enforcement. Any encounters with police must be recorded. Spend money on body cameras and train officers on proper procedures.

    1. That should include Hi Res cameras throughout the department, particularly any areas where evidence is collected or stored, or where suspects or the public have access to.

The data from those cameras should be automatically uploaded to a server or written to a hard drive that can only be accessed or manipulated by the IT administrator for the town, thereby having an additional layer of insulation from liability, and the ability for fu*kery.

  4. This is the email I sent to Matt at 5Stones.
It could have been ten times longer- the sentiment is there. BS audit.

    Hi Matt
I am writing to let you know I feel your characterization regarding the photo that includes Aiden Kearny and Helena Rafferty outside of court. It degrades your “audit” to make such an obviously biased statement. Is that how you handled the entirety of the audit? One party input? Seems like that would not be “best practices” when conducting a third party independent audit. You literally just stuffed your audit, your company and your reputation right in Helena Rafferty’s pocket.
    Sincerely,
    Valerie Wooldridge

  5. – off duty assignment at Gillette Stadium” –

If you’re on an “assignment” aren’t you by definition ‘on duty’?
And whom would it be that ‘assigns’ the/ a Chief of Police to this assignment?

The peasants aren’t allowed to know this because… they may be influenced to… exercise their Constitutional Rights… or may sit on a jury… one day?

    Let’s go serfin’ now
    Everybody’s learning how
Come on and safari with me

  6. A horrible situation at a cop’s home was made infinitely worse by shoddy police work. Body cameras, securing a crime scene, asking questions of witnesses and preserving evidence matter. Officer John O’Keefe paid the ultimate price. Ms. Read’s car did not hit John O’Keefe she is being framed by an unscrupulous prosecution.

    1. You’re on Turtle Boy’s site…

Commenting on an article written by Turtle Boy…

      Telling Turtle Boy to… get a life…

Parents did a bang-up job wit dis one here, they did.

      You need a hug, precious?

    2. He has a great life, standing for truth and transparency and giving creeps a run for their money with his courage and command of the English language!!!not backing down from any bully or group….

  7. Just because they made mistakes in the investigation doesn’t mean Karen didn’t commit murder byeeeeeee

    1. bingo!! I love the no stones, it seems to be a running theme with all the canton weasels…not fooling the majority of people or anyone with a functioning brain!!!

  8. looks like the auditers were paid off. they were paid to look the other way and even cover for the CPD. shameful

  9. Was there anything in there where they asked the officers what effect it had on morale at the department knowing that the chief was a pussy who was afraid of resident who had a dead body found on his lawn? Was it in line with proper protocol for the chief to contact a reporter and ask him to remove that same resident’s name from a tweet about the murder?

  10. Every time Canton has a chance to stand up and make things right, they shoot themselves in the foot. It’s frightening. I would invite any of the cry baby Canton Police officers to come to join the LAPD. Where they make $45 per hour. AND they have horrible working conditions (Have you seen Skid Row?) and they handle citizens yelling fowl words at them and dealing with all kinds of protesters living on college campuses. AND they actually might get killed or injured.

This a terrible look and the worst advertisement for 5 Stones. Well, I guess if a police department wants to hire an agency that can be bought, they know where to go.

  11. One big problem at the scene was evidence collecting. Det. Lank has a unmarked town issued cruiser. Does he use it as a family car ? You would think it would be stocked with i don’t know detectivy thingamabobs

  12. I hope that piece of shit berkowitz died a horrible death. Rafferty has that miserable cunt look etched in her face, let’s hope she dies a horrible death as well. These people are sickening

    1. totally agree—we are well past the point of having to maintain civility when dealing with or describing these criminals. Its well past FU time

  13. What did all that editorializing nonsense in the report have to do with CPD incompetence?
What a 200K crap job from a hack with no shame.
To the honest Canton citizens left in town, I feel sorry for both of you.

  14. Don’t think for one second this was dropped DURING jury selection by coincidence…

Classic American corruption right out in the open…. The main stream media takes the bait – hook, line and sinker. All in the name of clicks and advertising dollars.

Mr. Proctor is the ONLY one of these human garbage bags that has faced ANY consequences and he didn’t even kill “the guy”. I’m sure the under the table payoff won’t last forever like that police pension would have… Sing Chip, Sing. The truth shall set you free.

    1. I agree w your sentiment, but differ on who’s pitching: it’s the Canton Selectmen. Catching party remains the same.

  15. Initially, when I heard the radio report that an audit of the CPD was released, I was optimistic. As soon as I learned that it had been paid for by the Town of Canton, I didn’t need to read anything else. I’m old. Without exception, whenever a con*slut*ant is hired by management, without exception, they deliver precisely what management wants. 5Stones (and for that matter, every other kind of paid advice) will never work to uncover truth. This is my observation of 45 years of working and watching local government.

  16. Well as helpless as this expensive analysis was, it did remind the audience that no photos were taken of the actual ‘dead guy’ lying in the snow that early AM.
Everyone takes stupid phone pictures- their lunch, their pets, them at events, some hardware part needed, etc.
But NOBODY with a phone snapped one of John O’Keefe dead outside the house?
It wasn’t like Jen McCabe or Kerry Roberts weren’t really busy consoling Karen Read. Although I think Jen was actually on her phone.
Neither the 7+ EMTs or Canton Police took any good photos?
It’s not like this ‘murder’ occurred in the 1970s.

    1. It’s not about any of the aforementioned taking pictures with their phones… It’s about the CPD not taking any official crime scene photos of John O’Keefe. Granted he was not dead and putting him in the ambulance was a priority that ironically probably caused severe brain swelling that finished him off.

In the 1970s… 60s, 50s, 40s, 30s, 20s, etc. the police would have taken pictures and preserved the scene.

  17. I live in Mesa, Az. I have no connection to anyone or anything in Canton. I pity the residents of this town. You are all screwed. People are trying to do the right thing but are getting no where because the people that make the decisions are corrupt up there. I hope more good people get out there and vote and make necessary changes and get good ppl to sit in the seats with the power.

  18. Well done, Aidan! Great article! The auditor’s total refusal to acknowledge the cover-up tells me the citizens of Canton just wasted $200k! FxckRafferty & fxcktheMcAlberts!

  19. Your blog is a beacon of light in the often murky waters of online content. Your thoughtful analysis and insightful commentary never fail to leave a lasting impression. Keep up the amazing work!

  20. Just wish to say your article is as surprising The clearness in your post is just cool and i could assume youre an expert on this subject Fine with your permission allow me to grab your RSS feed to keep updated with forthcoming post Thanks a million and please keep up the enjoyable work

  21. Sounds like some Iraq war vets need to get into a firefight with the police to unfuck this corrupt political machine.
    Remember the Battle of Athens.

  22. I didn’t expect the audit to be totally truthful but it’s all about how the police feel and it shames the town folks. They shouldn’t be requesting FOIA Requests? How about all the residents that had property damage and was being harassed by Colon and Co.
Chris Albert making threats and harassing females in front of his dirty pizza shop..
The list goes on. Don’t forget how much it cost for the town so Canton PD can cry and work out their feels.
This company who did the audit claims they are a Christian faith based company and pulled a judas.

  23. My dad did one of these audits during a police chief search. He focused on chain of command matters, shift management, evidence procedure, processes and procedures for cases, etc. This is shocking that interviews focused on a specific case and the morale surrounding it. There are clear procedural standards and ways to measure against them. Was that done with graphs/charts over several years? While morale is an essential component of an effective police force, it’s not the overriding factor – unless they need a new chief due to the internal conflicts. It’s a shame because there are quality auditors out there.

As an aside…did he inventory the number of officers on high levels of testosterone? It’s rampant in this field and probably a contributing factor if a fight broke out that night. Overuse mixed with alcohol is the unspoken epidemic unfortunately.

  24. This alleged audit based on incidents chosen by Canton police raises serious questions. “Nope he’s a Boston cop” confirms a blue wash negligence by Canton and State police not bothering with probable cause to knock on the door of 34 Fairview. And group txt: “just tell them (Officer O’Keefe) didn’t come in the house”. See Page 91
