Dedham Police Seek Charges Against Former State Trooper, Sheriff Candidate Jimmy Coughlin For Furnishing Alcohol At Party Where 17 Year Old Was Pulled From Pool

The Boston Globe and other media outlets are reporting on an incident that happened at a graduation party in which a 17 year old boy named Alonzo Polk was found unresponsive in a pool at a graduation party. The family furnished the party with alcohol and police have filed for criminal complaint against the homeowners.

WCVB initially reported that the boy was dead, but his family disputes that and they were forced to issue a correction.

Except for some reason the mainstream media was not reporting who the family is.

Police are pursuing criminal charges in the tragic incident involving a 17-year-old from Dedham who was pulled from a pool unresponsive early Sunday morning during a graduation party. But many of the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the current condition of the victim, remain unanswered. Dedham police are pursuing misdemeanor charges that include furnishing alcohol to people under 21, and reckless endangerment of a child, according to a short press release. The names of those being charged have not been released – the court will need to determine probable cause first, and hold an arraignment.

Police were originally called to 36 Netta Road around 12:30 a.m. for an unresponsive male who was in the backyard, which has an in-ground pool. “Responding officers learned a graduation party was taking place at the location of this incident,” police wrote in a release after the incident. “An investigation into the circumstances leading to the victim becoming submerged in the water is ongoing.”

But it took two seconds of Googling to find out that the home on 36 Netta Road is owned by former State Trooper and MSP Detective, and recent candidate for Norfolk County Sheriff Jimmy Coughlin, and his wife Leslie. Their house is seen on his campaign Facebook page.

Howie Carr and Mike Saccone wrote about it earlier in the week, but since our media is so lazy and dependent on police press releases for their stories, they couldn’t be bothered to find this information on their own.

Coughlin is a Democrat who raised more than any other candidate and was endorsed by several LEO unions.

Coughlin, a Dedham Democrat, raised over $67,000 in 2019 and leads the field of Democrats in cash-on-hand. Coughlin’s list of contributors includes support from over 420 individuals and prominent law enforcement organizations, including the Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union, Massachusetts Chief Probation Officers and Massachusetts State Police Commissioned Officers. Coughlin served with distinction on the Massachusetts State Police for 29 years, starting as a trooper in uniform, and being promoted up the ranks as a detective and eventually detective captain, where he held several management positions.

His background in law enforcement hurt his chances for winning a contested 3-way democratic primary in which he finished a close 3rd. The winner was Pat McDermott, who made statements in support of BLM and was unpopular with the LEO community. For that reason Coughlin endorsed the Republican candidate, Jerry McDermott.

Sources tell me that Alonzo did not drink. It’s unknown how he died or if he was furnished with alcohol by the Coughlins, but one would think that a former state trooper would know better than to be present at a house where underage drinking was taking place. Friends tell me they’re a good family, they are devastated, and have been visiting him in the hospital. This could all have been a tragic accident, and I’m sure the Coughlins are distraught about it. However, considering the fact that Lonzo was black and the police have filed for a criminal complaint against a former state trooper, it’s in everyone’s best interest for the Town of Dedham to let the public know what happened before Monica Cannon-Grant finds her next target.
