‘Civilian’s Pride’ Continues The Fight For Equality With New Parade Initiative Inspired By The Work Of SHFA

Why should only service members and military veterans get parades, cookouts and discounts at The Home Depot?

Why should only service members and military veterans get parades, cookouts and discounts at The Home Depot? That’s what one organization wants to know.

The activists at “Civilian’s Pride”, inspired by the brave dedication to equality and inclusivity demonstrated by the gentleman at Super Happy Fun America, have begun efforts on the first ever “Civilian’s Day Parade.”

In an exclusive statement made to Tbdailynews, a spokesperson for Civilian’s Pride said:

For far too long we have celebrated the contributions of our active service members and military veterans, while leaving the accomplishments of our non-military brothers and sisters to suffer in silence and darkness. There’s not one parade, day, cookout or 5% discount at Tim Horton’s Cafe and Bake Shop or The Home Depot dedicated to the brave men and women who never enlisted in the armed services. This is shameful and an affront to all that we do as civilians. We are not anti-military, simply pro-civilian. If they can have a parade, so can we. Without civilians, there wouldn’t be any veterans!

Our non-military citizens contribute so much to this great nation, in both times of peace and times of war. They are truly the heartbeat of America, and critical to the continued success and prosperity of our economy and infrastructure. As non-military civilian citizens, we keep this country running strong, and we deserve recognition and celebration for all of our valor and sacrifice!

The struggles that our non-military citizens are very real. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Annual Homeless Assessment Report, as of 2017 there were around 554,000 homeless people in the United States on a given night, or 0.17% of the population. 13.7% of the US population, comprised mainly of non-military civilians do not have health insurance or access to affordable healthcare, and the age-adjusted suicide rate in 2017 was 14.0 per 100,000 individuals. Many of these individuals were civilians. We can do more for our brave civilian community!

We encourage everyone to embrace our community’s diverse history, culture, and identity regardless of sexual orientation.
We will educate the public about non-military strengths and issues, and foster unity and respect by having a parade.

You can follow the parade’s new Facebook page by following this link.

Or, if you’d like to help donate to their cause, you can visit their GoFundMe.

According to the GoFundMe,

Our inspiration and brothers in civil rights activism, Super Happy Fun America (organizers of the “Straight Pride Parade”) currently have a fundraising goal of $5,000. To say “thank you” to them for inspiring us to stand up and say “If they can have a parade, we can too!” We are looking to exceed their goal, with our own goal of $5,001.

It’s great to see the work of SHFA inspiring others to stand up for their rights, too!
