Heroic SJW Mob Treats Gainfully Employed Attleboro School Custodian Like A Charity Case After He Donates Pair Of Timberland Boots

How can you possibly be so oblivious to how degrading this is?

Apparently the parents in Attleboro are desperate for some sort of excitement in their lives, because recently a group of high school students decided to band together and buy their janitor a pair of Timberland boots, and thanks to the adults chaos promptly ensued.  It all started when some high school seniors asked their school’s custodian what he wanted for Christmas. They went out and bought him a pair of boots that retail around $100, and documented this lovely exchange.

Because if you don’t post your kindness on the internet, did you even good deed, bro?

This then prompted a firestorm of controversy in the Everything Attleboro group, because…… of course it did. What else would people do with their time? Get a hobby?

According to the Sun Chronicle:

” A custodian who was given a new pair of boots for Christmas by a group of high school students has decided to donate them to someone else after questions were raised about a potential ethics violation.

School Superintendent David Sawyer and high school Principal Bill Runey said Monday there is no violation of any ethics rule, but the custodian, Antonio “Tony” Coelho, decided to donate the boots to “someone who needs them” because of the uproar.

The boots, which cost $100, had been given to Coelho by a group of students led by high school senior Jack Sweeney, who said he admires Coelho for his positive attitude and the work he does for AHS.

Sweeney and fellow students donated the cash to buy the pair of Timberland boots.

The rule that sparked the hullabaloo was apparently one that prohibits giving gifts worth more than $50 to public employees. The gift was questioned on the Everything Attleboro website.

Sawyer said the rule does not apply to Coelho because the students were not in a position to get any kind of favorable treatment from him.

“There are rules about gifts to public employees under the state’s ethics statute, but they don’t pertain to this situation because the students do not stand to gain a benefit from the gift,” Sawyer said in a statement emailed to The Sun Chronicle.

Runey said it would be different if the recipient was a teacher.

“Teachers have to be concerned about reporting gifts of over $50 because there could be a question of students’ grades being impacted given someone’s generosity,” he said, noting that the school department does not view the gift as a violation of any rule. “Mr. Coelho does not have to disclose this gift. We are respecting Mr. Coelho’s wishes to donate the boots.”

Sweeney presented the boots to Coelho during a lunch period last Thursday. The event overwhelmed Coelho, who’s been employed by the school for 25 years, and was recorded and posted on Facebook.

The story of the gift appeared in the Saturday-Sunday edition of The Sun Chronicle.

Sweeney characterized the uproar as “unfortunate.”

But he’s glad the boots were given to someone else who needed them.

Coelho issued a comment through Runey.

“Christmas is a very special time for kids everywhere, and for the students at Attleboro High School, where I work,” he said. “I am deeply touched by what Jack Sweeney and the other students did on my behalf and am very happy that they support my decision to donate the boots to someone who needs them. We can all share in making someone’s life a little better at this time of year.” “

Kinda a weird reaction over some boots, but OK.

So the TL:DR is that some High School kids decided to buy some boots for Christmas for their favorite tenured custodian, it was heartwarming, and then allegedly some killjoy in the Everything Attleboro group decided to get outraged and erroneously attribute a school policy to the situation. As a result, the adult custodian whom has been gainfully employed with the school for a quarter of a century decided to donate said boots to someone less fortunate – therefore quelling the controversy stirred up by this nameless internet happiness assassin and still acknowledging the student’s kindness.

All in all, that’s lemons out of lemonade, my friends. What else can you do? And that’s where it should have stayed, ideally, but obviously we can’t do that. So Mr. Coelho’s good deed certainly could not go unpunished, and his wishes to have everyone just shut the heck up about it already went ignored, and the bored, self righteous busy bodies of Everything Attleboro once again lost their ever-loving minds.

A winter coat, Cathy? Why don’t you throw in some canned soups and a pair of hand-me-down gloves, too? I don’t think you’ve degraded the man quite enough.

Are you kidding me? Charity? “Fellow humans in need”? This is a full grown adult man, who works full time, at the same job he has worked for 25 years. He’s not a charity case. He’s not a kid with cancer, a homeless amputee, or anything of the sort.

He’s a man, who got a pair of boots from a group of students who absolutely HAD to make the news over a Christmas gift, and decided that all the controversy wasn’t worth it, so he gifted said boots to someone who actually needs him. That someone is not him. Obviously. He respectfully asked to be released from the spotlight blaring on him over this whole thing, but these people simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to virtue signal, so they chose not to respect this guy’s wishes. And the worst offender of all most definitely has to be this chick:

Who actually had the nerve to get ALL CAPS OUTRAGED over a pair of boots for a man who is undoubtedly exponentially older, wiser and more financially secure than she has the life experience or work ethic to imagine. Because he’s just a lowly custodian and she went to some liberal state school to obtain a degree that will cost her the next 15 years of working full time. Just look at this nonsense.

He’s an adult man, Rae. He’s not a beaten down, hungry puppy. Do you know what he DESERVES? Some privacy and dignity. This chick went so far as to make a GoFundMe, completely unsolicited, so that she could finally become the social justice hero that nobody ever asked for.

Wow, you typed some tone-deaf words on the internet that painted a hard-working man as a helpless charity case just waiting for a 20-something year old vapid hipster to save him. Good job. My hero.

Let me say it again, Rae, in your language: TONY COELHO DOES NOT NEED THE FUCKING BOOTS. HE IS AN ADULT WHO WORKS HARD TO PROVIDE FOR HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY. YOU SHOULD LEARN SOME THINGS FROM HIM.

The guy literally never asked for a handout. Quite the contrary. But hey, good job guys. You raised over $100 for someone who is definitely and indisputably NOT in need. Congratulations! You’re all asshats.

Even the kid’s mother told everyone to chill, but don’t let the people actually affected by the rabid SJW mob stop you, girl.

You deserve to feel morally superior to the entire internet. You worked hard smashing letters with the caplocks on for this. I really hope Mr. Coelho isn’t as mortified and offended by all this as I would be, because he has no reason to feel embarrassed at all. The mob of selfish, attention-starved faux do-gooders should absolutely feel ashamed, however. Take a lesson in humility from the school custodian, ladies and gentlemen. You undoubtedly need more from him than he’d ever need from you.
