I’m Looking For A Suicide Prevention Non-Profit To Partner With, Raise Awareness With Live Show Interview

Last week I announced that I was taking some time off to deal with mental health issues, in particular depression. Some have suggested that posting about it on TB won’t help me get better, but talking openly about things has always been the way I cope with trauma. I can’t tell you how much the outpouring of love and well wishes from turtle riders has meant the last week. I’ve received hundreds (maybe thousands) of DMs and emails from people who not only offer to help, but have opened up to me – a complete stranger – about some of the most personal things that have affected them in similar ways, and explained how they coped with it. I can’t tell you how much that means, and although I could not respond to every message I read every single one of them.

As it turns out I had a panic attack last Saturday (first time, wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy), and since then I’ve been dealing with really bad anxiety and depression that made it almost impossible to sleep or eat. I’ve been seeing doctors, going to therapy, and been prescribed anti-anxiety meds which have all helped a lot. I have 3 more sessions this week.

With that said I want to return to blogging because I think it’s good for my mental health, because when I don’t blog all I think about is the other stuff. I find that keeping myself busy and talking to other people is the best medicine I can find. So expect the blogs to come back soon.

I also would like to use this opportunity and the platform that I have to raise awareness about suicide prevention, which we need now more than ever. To that end I would like to collaborate with an established non-profit (in the Boston area preferably) that works to help people and families who find themselves in situations like I did. I want to help get rid of the stigma that you can’t talk about this stuff, or that it’s too personal, because you’d be surprised how many people are going through similar stuff.

Ideally I would like to have a representative from one of these non-profits come on the Live show/podcast with me and discuss what they do, and how turtle riders can help. I’d be happy to open up about exactly what led me to my situation last week in order to encourage others to do the same. I’d like to open up the phone lines and allow other people to call in and speak about their experiences. And I’d like to sell t-shirts in which 100% of all profits go directly to whatever non-profit I partner with.

If you work for an organization like this, or know someone who does, please reach out to them and set them up with me so we can make something positive happen. To reach me feel free to shoot me a DM on Facebook, or email [email protected].
