Lawrence Man Robs 94 Year Old Woman Outside Walgreens, Not In Jail Despite Previous Arrest For Selling Heroin

City of Lawrence: At approximately 1:54 PM this afternoon Lawrence Police responded to the Walgreen’s Pharmacy at 220 South Broadway for a report of an unarmed robbery.  Dispatch received information that a 94 year old female’s purse was snatched as she was sitting in a vehicle in the pharmacy’s parking lot waiting for her daughter who was in the store at the time.   The first officer to arrive on scene provided a description of the suspect to responding units.   Moments later the suspect was spotted by a responding officer as he was attempting to flee along railroad tracks that run adjacent to the Walgreen’s parking lot. He was simultaneous taken into custody by members of the Lawrence Police Patrol and Detectives Division. The purse was recovered with its contents intact. While the entire event was unfolding an officer, who was dispatching, was able to view video footage of the incident which was provided through the City’s recently installed camera system. This video footage provided the direction in which the suspect fled, as well as a more detailed description. This information was crucial in the expeditious apprehension of the suspect and recovery of the purse by detectives. Taylor Matkivich age 26 of Lawrence will be arraigned tomorrow in Lawrence District Court charged with Unarmed Robbery of a person over 65 and Trespassing.

“He’s a panhandler, obviously in and around the stores, this and that. Obviously trying to be an opportunist in this case, seeing an elderly woman,” Lawrence Police Chief Roy Vasque said. “There were a million different ways he could’ve gone but the cameras were key in this regard.”

You have to be pretty low to rob a 94 year old woman. You also have to be really bad at robbery if that’s your target demographic. But of course it’s not his fault because addiction is a “disease,” and these people have no control over their own actions, right?

Nah. He is the disease.

He’s also a drug dealer as well:

Five people are due to be arraigned in Haverhill District Court on drug trafficking charges as the result of arrests Tuesday during two separate investigations by Haverhill police detectives. According to police, Taylor Matkivich, 22, of 231 Washington St., Haverhill, Sean Fenton, 30 and Eddy Lara-Suarez, 34, both of Lawernce, were arrested between 7:47 and 7:59 p.m., Tuesday, on Washington Avenue. Each was charged with trafficking in a class A drug (heroin/morphine/opium), drug violation near a school zone and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Fenton was also taken into custody on an outstanding warrant charging him with driving without a license.

Why is he walking the streets right now if he was arrested for selling heroin in Haverhill just 3 years ago? Heroin kills people. If we want to really address the opiate epidemic then it’s time we start charging heroin dealers like we charge murderers. Because that’s exactly what they are. Instead he was given a second chance from an activist judge and now a 94 year old woman paid the price for this judge’s leniency. Nothing in this state will get fixed as long as we keep appointing judges like that.
