Lowell Woman Killed By Plow Identified As Deanne Fontes Who Previously Was Accused Of Killing Her 2 Year Old, Pretending To Be Disabled While Panhandling

Three years ago we published a blog about a Lowell woman named Deanna Fontes, who friends alleged was pretending to be disabled in a wheelchair in order to make more money panhandling for drug money. More famously she was also accused of killing her two year old son in 2010 and blamed it on the boy’s brother.

Two years ago this afternoon, 2-year-old Dean McCullough was pronounced dead at Lowell General Hospital due to blunt-force trauma to the head. More than seven months later, on April 7, 2011, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled that the manner of death was homicide. No one has been arrested. Dean McCullough’s mother, Deanna Fontes, who was 17 at the time, said her 28-year-old boyfriend, Brian Nutter, found the child shaking and unable to breathe about 2 p.m., on Sept. 1, 2010. The couple tried to perform CPR, but it didn’t work. They called 911. Dean McCullough was pronounced dead a short time later, when he got to the hospital.

Fontes and Nutter both spoke to reporters the night of the death, saying they were being accused of strangling the child. They both denied the allegations.

“I didn’t hurt my child and neither did my boyfriend,” said a crying Fontes. “He was a lovely little boy.”

The couple said Dean’s older brother had a “sibling rivalry” with McCullough, and frequently hit the younger child with toys and other objects. Fontes said Dean had also been sick shortly before his death, and had fallen out of his crib and hit his head earlier in the week.

“I would never ever hurt my children. I love them,” Fontes said.

In today’s episode of “where are they now,” the answer is – dead from being run over by a plow.

The 27-year-old woman who died after being struck by a truck with a plow in the Acre during Saturday’s snowstorm has been identified as Deanne Fontes, of Lowell. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent Raymond Kelly Richardson confirmed Fontes’ identity Monday afternoon. According to a statement from Ryan’s office, Fontes was being pushed in a wheelchair by a 39-year-old Carlisle man when they were struck by a Chevrolet Silverado with an attached plow near the intersection of Cross and School streets just before 7 p.m. Saturday. The impact threw Fontes under a parked vehicle across the street.

On Saturday night, Galyon said he suspects the “strong-willed” Fontes decided she needed to go somewhere and had Ben wheel her down the street, and they were likely arguing — something Fontes was oft known to do — when they were struck by the truck.

I don’t want to accuse the man of intentionally pushing her directly into a plow, but I’m also not ruling it out. Either way, this is what Karma looks like. All these people are lionizing her and blaming the plow driver.

But at the end of the day her son Dean’s life was ruled a homicide and no one ever paid for it. It was her job to protect this child’s life, but instead of doing that she kept bringing home more drug addicted men and living the Kate Peter life. Either she killed him or the man she was shacking up with at the time did (Brian Nutter) and she just covered for him. It sure wasn’t a 3 year old who did it, and I have absolutely zero pity for her.
