Several sources have reached out to us to tell us about a imminent shelter in place that will be ordered by Governor Baker by Monday. The National Guard has been called up, so this is obviously a serious situation. However, that hasn’t stopped one local man from channeling his inner Libertarian. Meet Dave Culhane from Milton.
Dave is an expert on contagious diseases and has decided to fight tyranny by organizing a party for freedom fighters at Revere Beach on March 27.
In fairness, you don’t need a global pandemic to catch a disease at Revere Beach. All you need is $5 and a good attitude.
Dave decided to organize this event because he’s really sad about Tom Brady leaving and the fact that he can’t go to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He made it clear on the event’s page that this was not some sort of joke either.
However, the group has been removed by Facebook after I joined it, and I reached out to David to find out why. His story has now changed, claiming it’s a joke, possibly because he was contacted about the fact that it was completely illegal.
Except based on what his understanding of the virus is, it’s pretty clear that he wasn’t joking.
Looks like we’ve got a “muh flu stats” guy here. Apparently he missed the memo that Wuhan virus is significantly more contagious and deadly than the flu, and there is no vaccine or medication for it. Besides that his logic is spot on.
People out there who think like David Culhane are unfortunately in large supply. It’s not that there’s a difference of opinion. It’s that they’re wrong and they’re hell bent on making sure this crisis never ends. You can make the argument that we shouldn’t be shutting down stores, but saying you want to throw parties at Revere Beach because “iTs nO wOrSe tHaN tHe fLu” makes you a prime candidate for public ridicule.
