Ox Bar And Grill Releases Statement Announcing They’ve Relieved The Manager Who Posted That All Employees Were Fired In A Facebook Post

Earlier in the week we published a blog about the Ox Bar and Grill in Oxford, after a manager told the entire staff that they were fired in a Facebook post in a private group that not everyone can see.

TL;DR:

  • We were too gutless to tell our employees directly that they were fired
  • We had the manager do it in a Facebook post instead
  • That blew up on in our face when we ended up on TB so now we’re throwing her under the bus too

For what it’s worth the manager was only “removed from her management position” because they shuffled her to another restaurant that David Brambila also owns. Her husband is now the manager at the Ox Bar and Grille, they still owe money to a cleaning company, and employees are reporting that they still haven’t been paid.

What part of “everyone is fired” could possibly be miscommunicated?

Here’s an idea – if you’re going to do something like this make sure that the only person who gets to keep her job and acts as the de facto Uncle Tom brand ambassador, isn’t a flat brimmed ratchet from Worcester.

Do they have a right to fire their entire staff? Sure. But using the COVID crisis as a smokescreen and not even having the dignity to call the employees up and tell them, is a very crappy thing to do. Almost as crappy as pretending that you didn’t mean to do that, throwing the manager under the bus for following orders, and then playing manager switcharoo to cover for yourself after the fact.
