Southbridge Teacher Arrested For Planting Live Ammo In School, Pretending To Find It, Putting School In Lockdown While He Has Unlicensed Shotgun In Car
So this happened at Southbridge High School today.
When this guy finds out that surveillance cameras are a thing that exist in schools he’s gonna feel dumb. SHS is a brand new state of the art school with a rough population too. Of course they’re going to have cameras everywhere. As unprofessional as it was that he came to school reeking of booze, with a shotgun and ammo in his car, and then caused the school to go into lockdown by dropping live ammo and pretending to find it in a staircase, the most disqualifying thing he did was not realize there would be cameras there. I don’t want my kids being taught by someone that stupid.
His point was a fair one, just the execution was all wrong. Maybe just bring up the fact that you could bring live ammo to school at a faculty meeting. You can make your point without actually breaking the law and putting everyone on edge in an era of school shootings.
Part of me feels for the guy because he teaches in Southbridge, and by the looks of it he’s been there a long time. Being in the Southbridge Public Schools for that long can do a number on you mentally, especially when 99% of your students refer to you as “Yooo Mistah.” A lot of these kids come from bad homes, they don’t speak English, they’re in gangs, they sell drugs, and there’s no parental support. And when they don’t do well on the MCAS it’s the teachers who get blamed. You try doing that for 30 years and watch how grizzled you get.
There was a reason some of my best students while teaching at Shepherd Hill were from Southbridge – their parents cared enough to get them out of SHS.
On the bright side, at least when you’re working at a school like this your students will be more compassionate if and when you get arrested, because they feel you dog.
Only in Southbridge is “Free muh teacher” a thing that could possibly happen.
