TB Is Looking For A Salesperson And Web Developer To Take The Brand To The Next Level

Attention turtle riders – I am looking for two things:

  1. A web developer
  2. A salesperson

I’ve been using the same web developer for years now, and he’s pretty good, but projects take way too long to get done. I’ve been trying for months now to add the ad free option to TB Daily News, get it on the app, and a few other things to improve that website. Turtleboy Sports will still exist, but the fact of the matter is that the language used on TBS prevents it from being taken seriously and makes it difficult to monetize. That’s why I created TB Daily News – a more civilized alternative to Turtleboy. It tells the same story just with different terminology. The problem with TB Daily News is:

  • You can’t up vote comments
  • There’s no app
  • The online store isn’t integrated with the site
  • There’s no ad free option like there is with TBS

The guy I hired two months ago to to do this hasn’t done the job I hired him to do and isn’t returning my calls or emails, so I need to find someone else. If you’re a web developer who knows how to do things and actually returns emails or text messages, ping me at [email protected]. If you do a good job you’ll continuously get business from me for years to come.

As for the salesperson, my problem is that for years I was the sales guy and the content guy, and I don’t have time to do both. I’m an entertainer, a journalist, and a creator. I’m not a salesman. But a site needs revenue to grow, so no matter how big the blogs are that I publish it doesn’t matter if the site isn’t generating enough revenue.

When I first started Turtleboy I knocked on doors and made cold calls around Worcester until I had 20 advertisers after 3 months in business. It paid the bills, but I kept having to make more sales which prevented me from blogging as much.

That’s why I switched to ad networks in late 2016, which are third parties that pay publishers to put ads from big companies on their websites. That allowed me to focus on content instead of being a salesperson and the site took off. The more I published, the more views I got, and the more money the company made. This enabled me to hire new bloggers because I could pay them by the page view, which incentivized them to publish quality blogs too. Everyone was winning.

Losing the Facebook page and getting blacklisted by Google AdSense destroyed this business model. I couldn’t get bloggers the traffic they normally got, and ad revenue plummeted by over 80%. So I’m not going to bring any more bloggers on until I can figure out a way to pay them.

That’s where the salesperson comes in. Ideally this person would be a young, hungry, somewhat experienced person who is enthusiastic about Turtleboy and believes it has potential to become something big. We get over 3 million monthly page views on TBS and TBDN. We have over 10K YouTube and podcast subscribers. Everyone around here knows what Turtleboy is, even if they always don’t agree with it.

Luckily advertisers don’t pay publishers because they agree with them, they pay to be seen. They pay to get return on investment. And those are things I can deliver. I just need a salesperson to assuage any apprehension that businesses have towards the brand. We give advertisers a personal touch that they can’t get anywhere else because our readers are extremely loyal and appreciate their business.

I provide salespeople with rate cards that show different kinds of advertising TB offers, as well as demographic break downs. Over 60% of our audience is between 25-44, and it’s split down the middle male-female. Turtleboy attracts productive, taxpaying, employed citizens who spend money at local businesses. There’s no better place to be, and no easier sale you make.

I’ve been looking for a good salesperson for years now but haven’t found one. Many have come on and wasted my time after talking a big game. But like I said, I sold for two years and it was extremely easy.

I don’t like to compare Turtleboy to Barstool Sports because they’re a much bigger website and a more established brand. But the idea is the same. Both sites are (or were in their case) “controversial,” but both sites are also read and enjoyed by millions of people. Both sites say the things that no one is saying. But Dave Portnoy didn’t build Barstool Sports on his own. He had 3-4 guys, including a salesman, that made his growth possible. If he could thrive after posting a picture of Tom Brady’s kid’s howitzer, and survive constant vilifying from feminists and social justice warriors, then there’s no reason Turtleboy can’t too. I just need to get serious about surrounding myself with the right people.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not in danger of going broke or anything like that. I’m able to survive and get by as it is now and could continue doing this moving forward. But I don’t want to survive and get by. I want to take Turtleboy to the next level, and I need a team to do that. So if you believe in Turtleboy, and can envision yourself being part of that team, then we could potentially do this until we retire. Send me an email if you’re interested. [email protected].

Hello Turtle Riders. As you know if you follow Turtleboy we are constantly getting censored and banned by Facebook for what are clearly not violations of their terms of service. Twitter has done the same, and trolls mass reported our blog to Google AdSense thousands of times, leading to demonetization. We can get by and survive, but we could really use your help. Please consider donating by hitting the Donation button above if you'd like support free speech and what we do in the face of Silicon Valley censorship.
