Lost in the Vanity Fair article on Karen Read that came out last week was this line from reporter Julie Miller:

“Meanwhile, according to sources, Morrissey’s top prosecutors have refused to retry Read’s case, so he has taken the unusual step of retaining outside counsel to spearhead the next trial: Hank Brennan—who defended Whitey Bulger.”

According to Miller, she has reliable sources who have told her that all of the top prosecutors from the Norfolk County DA’s Office have refused to participate in the retrial of Karen Read. I find it hard to believe that Vanity Fair would allow Miller to publish such a claim if editors couldn’t verify that her sources were reliable and legitimate. If this were untrue it would open the publication up to libel lawsuits.

I can also report from reliable sources that one of the prosecutors who Morrissey asked to take over the case and refused, is ADA Greg Connor.

Connor is the lead prosecutor in the Brian Walshe case.

He also was the lead prosecutor in the murder trial of Emanuel Lopes, who was convicted of killing Weymouth Police Officer Michael Chesna and civilian Vera Adams.

He had no problem prosecuting Lopes, who was accused of killing a cop, and he had no problem prosecuting Brian Walshe, who is accused of a deadly act of domestic violence, but he refused to prosecute Karen Read who is accused of both killing a cop AND a deadly act of domestic violence.

Connor was featured in a 2020 Patriot Ledger article and bragged about doing the more complicated cases in the office:

“I’m kind of an advisor to the lawyers in the office on how to charge a case, formulate a disposition on a case, or come up with a trial strategy for the case. In addition, it requires of me to try some of the more complicated cases in the office,” Connor said. “Sometimes, I try and develop blueprints on how to do something so that if a similar case comes up (we have an outline).”

There is no case in the country more complicated than the Karen Read case. Yet he is refusing to try it.

He was inspired to do his job by his father:

Connor went to Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood before attending Boston College, both for undergrad and his law degree. He said he was inspired to become a prosecutor both because of his dad, a lawyer, retired judge and one-time prosecutor himself, and a commitment to public service.

He has a commitment to public service, yet he is refusing to do the job the public pays him to do by refusing to retry Karen Read.

He said that he doesn’t shy away from high profile cases:

Connor said that taking on the county’s more high-profile cases brings added pressure, but he takes solace in knowing there are other prosecutors just like him working their way through similar circumstances.

“What I like to think is, is that I’m not alone,” Connor said. “There are prosecutors all over the country that are asked to take on a complicated matter and do their best on it, so I’m just trying to do that”

Yet he is doing just that with the highest profile murder case in the country.

He said that the OJ case is the reason he wanted to become a prosector, citing the similarities in racial tensions between the OJ case and the George Floyd riots.

“The verdict came down and I remember where I was, it made me realize how fragile we were as a country internally,” Connor said. “I’ve always been cognizant of the realization that the justice system is pretty fragile, and 2020 has kind of brought that back into the nation’s attention. I think that it’s incumbent upon me as a prosecutor to make sure that I keep that in the forefront of my mind, that we should have the same justice system for everyone …  I think we have a real pressure on ourselves to make sure it’s equal for everyone.”

I don’t want to get ahead of myself by assuming Connor is a decent human being, because I don’t see how anyone with a conscience can work for such an unethical pig like Michael Morrissey. But if he is truly taking a principled stand by refusing to try this case, I commend him.

I reached out to the Norfolk DA’s Office for comment but have not heard back.

Attorney Andrew Myers announced on his YouTube show that he also contacted the Norfolk DA’s Office for comment on this matter. He called them first, and a representative from Morrissey’s press office said “we have no comment on the Vanity Fair Article.” After that he drafted a polite formal letter to the DA’s Office that was once again ignored.

If this were untrue it would be something the DA’s Office would want to get out in front of and clarify. This is a District Attorney who held a press conference on August 25, 2023, telling the public that Karen Read’s allegations of a third party culprit were “baseless,” so it would seem unlikely that they wouldn’t denounce a report that all of their top prosecutors were openly insubordinate if it weren’t true.

The public should know WHY Morrissey’s top prosecutors refused to retry Read. They get paid by the taxpayers to do so. Wouldn’t they be lining up to take this case if they truly believed Karen Read killed a Boston Police Officer? They applied for jobs to work as prosecutors, whose job it is to put away bad guys. If they really believed Karen Read was a cold blooded killer wouldn’t they be lining up for the shot at putting her in jail?

There’s only 2 reasons these prosecutors would take a stand like this:

  1. They know they can’t win and don’t want to embarrass themselves on a national stage.
  2. They think Karen Read is innocent and are ethically opposed to taking part in her prosecution.

I also don’t believe for a second that Hank Brennan is going to work for just $75K. A man of his stature likely makes close to $1 million a year. This case is going to consume his life for 6 months, and he won’t be able to handle any other clients in private practice. He’s possibly giving up an estimated $500K for a $75K paycheck because his desire to lynch Karen Read means more to him than money? There’s no way he’s going to get paid less than Ken Mello to embarrass himself, disgrace his reputation, and get pantsed on national television by Alan Jackson every day for 10 weeks.

It’s outrageous that this trial is even taking place at all, but there should be an explanation for why the taxpayers are paying Hank Brennan to do Greg Connor’s job. As of now it appears as if Connor has a soul, while Brennan will participate in pure evil if you pay him enough.

  1. I also believe they know the feds are watching and could get tangled up in the illegal antics.
There’s no doubt to me that Lally will be punished.

  2. If Greg Connor has a conscience, he’ll resign and tell the truth about Morrissey and this joke of a prosecution. He seems like a decent person…but is he really?

    1. Not a lawyer, just a consumer of true crime; my observation is that the FBI must be called in by the prosecutor to assist on a state crime. KR is facing MA state charges, not Federal. Unless the crime involves Federal charges, like abuse of US Mail, or if someone moved O’Keefe’s body across state lines, the Feds can’t get involved. The Feds can and do and are getting involved in misdeeds related to cops doing their jobs, as in the Birchmore case. The kop klowns involved in the KR investigation are also in the hot seat for their investigation, but not for the homicide itself. Until Morrissey is dead, the Feds will not be invited to assist directly with the KR trial and investigation. And probably not even then.

  3. Greg Connor sounds racist? “He said that the OJ case is the reason he wanted to become a prosector”.

Oh you must have thought he was guilty and don’t believe in the system ?
Greg Connor Found a county that he could manipulate and get the results wants ?
But too Afraid to take on a white woman……if she was black Greg would be all over this case like White On Rice !
    Pussy
He has convictions on the innocent however , this is just to big for him.

  4. Meanwhile, Morrissey continues wasting our money to keep all his corrupt shenanigans and political cronies and cops under wraps. Thanks for the profile in leadership, Healy.

  5. Mr. Brennan,

I am writing to express my concern and disappointment regarding your involvement in the Karen Read trial. As someone who follows your work and has admired your commitment to challenging government corruption and seeking justice, I am struggling to understand your decision to work with the prosecution in this case.

Your 2018 statement about the impossibility of a fair trial when police reports and evidence contradict witnesses resonated with me. It seemed to reflect a strong moral and ethical stance. Given the evidence that has come to light in the Karen Read case, I am finding it difficult to reconcile your past statements with your current actions.

As an observer of the trial, it appears to me that the evidence supports Ms. Read’s innocence. I am confused about why you, with your experience in exposing conspiracies and cover-ups, would choose to work against this apparent truth.

I am aware that the jury has already delivered a verdict on two counts, yet the decision was made to declare a mistrial. This raises questions for me about how you can proceed with this case while maintaining the ethical and moral standards you have publicly professed.

I wonder if you will be transparent about the outcome of this trial on your website, regardless of the result. It seems important to be open with your followers about the challenges of pursuing justice, even in difficult cases.

My intention in writing is not to question your professional abilities, but to express my sincere concern about the alignment of your actions in this case with the moral and ethical principles you have stated in the past. I believe that the outcome of this trial could impact how others perceive your commitment to these principles.

I would like to bring to your attention several YouTube channels and videos that critically examine the credibility of the witnesses. One recent example is a video by @joe-flipperhead titled “The Wake-Up Call – Changing the Story,” which highlights inconsistencies between witness testimony and police reports. These videos are not merely for entertainment purposes; they serve to uphold the principles of fairness and ethics in the pursuit of a just trial, as stated in your moral and ethical statement of 2018.

I hope you will take my concerns seriously and reflect on the impact of your choices. I wish you the best in your pursuit of justice, while also upholding the integrity and morals that have defined your work.
Justice for John O’Keefe but also justice for Karen Read!
