Last month the Commonwealth filed a motion in the Karen Read case announcing that they hired a new “expert” named Shanon Burgess, who claims that he can prove where Karen was and when, at the time she allegedly traveled 24.2 mph in reverse and hit John O’Keefe with her car. Burgess claims that in the last trial there was significant data that was not acquired during the “chip off.”
Burgess works in Houston, and appears to have been hired by the Commonwealth due to his professional association with their forensic cell phone “expert” Jessica Hyde.
Mr. Burgess argued that the “chip off” from the Lexus tech stream data should’ve been 64 MB instead of the 8 MB provided. According to Man Shanon two other data-bearing components were also not completely handed over for the first trial.
He confidently stated that if the full files had been analyzed it would show the exact time and place where Read allegedly accelerated in reverse, which would’ve increased the chances of conviction if it showed that was at 34 Fairview Road.
Unfortunately a random person on Twitter named Olivia Lamb, who has gained a large audience on Twitter through her detailed analysis of the Read case, pointed out that Burgess doesn’t know the difference between megabytes and megabits.
The Commonwealth’s latest “expert”, Shanon Burgess, in his analysis of the prior data acquisition of Karen Read’s Lexus’ Telematics system, doesn’t seem to even understand the rather basic difference between Gigabits and GigaBytes.
This means Burgess’ entire analysis is… pic.twitter.com/HtawhfhMq8

I remember when Olivia made this tweet it caught my attention but I didn’t have the attention span to look into it. Surely the Commonwealth wouldn’t be THAT stupid to cite an expert who doesn’t know the difference between bytes and bits, especially when his Twitter handle is “burgers n bytes.”
But as Olivia pointed out, a byte is 8 bits, so the 8 megabytes Burgess cited were 64 megabits, the 264 megabytes cited were 2 gigabits, and the 540 megabytes provided were 4 gigabits.
Again, I found it hard to believe that the Commonwealth would be this foolish to put forward the analysis of an “expert” who doesn’t know the difference between bits and bytes, in the hopes that they could conduct destructive testing on evidence that Karen Read would have to pay to monitor.
But this is the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, where the most ridiculous and outrageous things routinely happen and no one is ever held responsible for it. Today, Read’s defense team filed a motion stating how their expert Matthew Disogra figured out what Olivia Lamb did – that the opinions of Shanon Burgess are based on factually inaccurate statements.
Mr. Disogra has an impressive resume, including a masters degree in mechanical engineering, and an employment background as an engineer specializing in motor vehicle accident reconstruction.
Man Shanon has a community college degree in computer networking, claims that he “solves mysteries,” and was once featured on a YouTube channel with 28 viewers.
The original “chip off” conducted by the Commonwealth was done by Maggie Gaffney, a former State Police computer crimes investigator and forensic examiner, who has a master’s degree in digital forensics. She currently works for Teel Technologies, a Connecticut based data extraction company with international reach.
So Hank Brennan’s first actions as special prosecutor were to call a former MSP forensic investigator incompetent who has a master’s degree in forensics and works for a world renowned data extraction company, while promoting a guy with a community college degree who tweets at the doo-rag lady looking for work and was referred to them by their other “expert” who wrongly opined that Jennifer McCabe never Googled “hos long to die in cold” at 2:27 AM, and has since been debunked by the FBI and a doctor hired by Vanity Fair.
Rough start for Hank.
The Commonwealth has done a lot of stupid things during this case, but dubbing someone an expert who doesn’t know the difference between bytes and bits and got debunked by a random woman on Twitter, might be the dumbest. They have proven with Ian Whiffin and Jessica Hyde that they will conduct an international search for an “expert” until they find one willing to testify that the forensic data they had in evidence was actually wrong. In the case of Whiffin and Hyde they were both looking to use the trial promote themselves or an app they developed. There is no way they suddenly just “found” Whiffin, who lives in Alberta, Canada, just as they didn’t suddenly “find” Shanon Burgess in Houston. There are plenty of experts nearby who could easily verify if McCabe’s Google search was legit, or if the tech stream data was provided. But the Commonwealth isn’t searching for the truth, they’re looking for someone who can testify willing to testify that the sky isn’t actually blue, as they actively seek to protect the people who murdered John O’Keefe and lynch an innocent woman.
Shanon Burgess solved the Rubix Cube puzzle in under 5 minutes while in community college.
Man Shanon’s 15 gigabits of fame went by pretty fast.
Let me know when your mom is done with the meatloaf, Shan.
There are so many people following this case that know Karen is innocent, they are going to scrutinize every detail. So no more BS is going to slide by undetected.

Give Man Shanon a break; he was only off by a factor of EIGHT.
I hope Olivia Lamb is extremely well-compensated for whatever work she does for pay.
How incredibly concerning all of these oversights and bad faith efforts on the commonwealths side of the case is. These crucial issues that keep surfacing are outrageous and more so, dangerous! Anything brought by the commonwealth out of Norfolk DA office is pure absurdity!
