Here Are All The Celebrities, Politicians, And Media Who Fell For The Fake Jussie Smollett Hate Crime
Jussie Smollett was finally brought to justice today, and the Chief of Police held a press conference in which he completely ripped into Jussie and revealed more details about his scheme. We’ll probably do a followup on the insane details as they continue to come out, but it’s pretty wild.
This was the most powerful start to a police press conference I've ever seen. Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said he was so angry Jussie Smollett “took advantage of the pain and anger in racism to promote his career." But listen to how Johnson starts his remarks… pic.twitter.com/GGFhyAZdES
— Jessica Schneider (@SchneiderCNN) February 21, 2019
Look at all those cops man. They are PISSED!! And why wouldn’t they be? Chicago is the deadliest city in America. The city has an epidemic of black on black violence, which ironically is what Jussie’s story turned out to be another example of. And they wasted all this time on a silver spooned celebrity, born into wealth, given every privilege imaginable to attain the life of a millionaire, because he wanted to be a victim so he could blame it on a President he despises.
Anyway, as much as I blame Smollett I equally blame the people who believed him. And the mere fact that people believed him, while immediately casting shame on the Covington Kids and Brett Kavanaugh, is once again proof that white privilege isn’t a real thing. But gay black privilege certainly is, which is why he has been so coddled up until this point. Jussie lied because he knew his privilege would make people support him. Jussie Smollett lied because he knows we live in a society where people WANT to believe a story like this, despite its cartoonish nature. He knew there would be an army of blue checkmarked celebrities, media members, and politicians who would take up his cause for him. They should not get a free pass.
For the most part hardly anyone is defending him anymore. There may be a few outliers like the producer of Empire:
I believe and stand by @JussieSmollett . Keep your head up. @EmpireWriters @EmpireFOX
— Brett Mahoney (@TheBrettMahoney) February 18, 2019
But that’s it. A lot of people have speculated that the left will embrace him and turn him into a martyr now, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. People on the left are really good at eating their own, and throwing each other under the bus for their own personal gain. Most of them turned on Ralph Northam, Al Franken, Justin Fairfax, John Conyers, Harvey Weinstein, and a plethora of other liberals who violated their core principles. Jussie Smollett is toxic from this point forward, and the smart ones will keep their distance.
I won’t forget though. The last few months have made me extremely conservative. From Kavanaugh, to Covington, to Smollett, it’s clear that if we handed the country to these psychopaths on the left we would be living in a country where mob rule runs the show. In all three of these incidents they formed online mobs to destroy innocent people (Kavanaugh, teenage boys, and in Smollett’s case all Trump voters). The thought of what they could do with complete power is scary. Trump might say stupid things, but I’ll take that any day of the week over these psychopaths.
With that said, let’s look back on how blue checkmarked liberals reacted to the Jussie Smollett hoax, which any rational person would’ve realized was a hoax from the beginning. I’m going to start with politicians, since ultimately they have the most influence. Then I’ll do the media and celebrities, who because of their large followings on social media have the ability to influence public opinion. We will look at who has taken their tweets down (hardly anyone) and who has commented on it publicly (hardly anyone). It shows you just how full of shit these people really are.
Let’s start with the Presidential candidates, who used this hoax as a way to attack Trump – the man they are trying to dethrone.
Corey Booker called it a modern day lynching.
The vicious attack on actor Jussie Smollett was an attempted modern-day lynching. I'm glad he's safe.
To those in Congress who don't feel the urgency to pass our Anti-Lynching bill designating lynching as a federal hate crime– I urge you to pay attention. https://t.co/EwXFxl5f2m
— Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) January 29, 2019
Now he’s saying he wants to wait until we have all the “facts,” even though we do, and even though he didn’t need facts when the story first came out.
Kamala Harris is the leading democratic candidate right now.
.@JussieSmollett is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know. I’m praying for his quick recovery.
This was an attempted modern day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. We must confront this hate.
— Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) January 29, 2019
She pretended like she had never heard of this the other day when asked and had to turn to a staffer. She has not condemned it, but did go on Trevor Noah last night.
I’ll join @TrevorNoah on the @TheDailyShow tonight at 11 p.m. ET. Be sure to tune in.
— Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) February 21, 2019
Don’t worry though – he didn’t question her about it.
Bernie said it was an example of “surging hostility toward minorities.”
The racist and homophobic attack on Jussie Smollett is a horrific instance of the surging hostility toward minorities around the country. We must come together to eradicate all forms of bigotry and violence. https://t.co/2accVEJrCG
— Bernie Sanders (@SenSanders) January 29, 2019
He has not commented since, and has not been asked about it by any reporters.
In 2012 Joe Biden said that Mitt Romney was going to “put y’all back in chains” while speaking to a black audience. As a white guy from Delaware running against women and minorities he will have to prove that he’s one of the “good ones” by constantly virtue signaling like this.
What happened today to @JussieSmollett must never be tolerated in this country. We must stand up and demand that we no longer give this hate safe harbor; that homophobia and racism have no place on our streets or in our hearts. We are with you, Jussie. https://t.co/o8ilPu68CM
— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) January 30, 2019
He has not been asked about this by any reporters and has not commented on it since. Imagine letting someone this impulsive near the nuclear button?
Kirsten Gillibrand said it was just one of “too many hate crimes against LGBTQ people and people of color.”
This is a sickening and outrageous attack, and horribly, it's the latest of too many hate crimes against LGBTQ people and people of color. We are all responsible for condemning this behavior and every person who enables or normalizes it. Praying for Jussie and his family. https://t.co/eylvxhLT0u
— Kirsten Gillibrand (@SenGillibrand) January 29, 2019
Now she says she’s waiting on facts.
I asked Senator Kirsten Gillibrand if she wanted to amend her original statement on Jussie Smollett. Here’s what she said: pic.twitter.com/qBUPZPWmrZ
— DJ Judd (@DJJudd) February 19, 2019
Facts that she did not need when it was useful in attacking Trump.
Adam Schiff is the Congressman leading the Russian inquiry into Trump. He said that Jussie “was the victim of a horrific attack.”
Not alleged either. It definitely happened. His tweet has since been deleted and he has not commented on it. It was useful to spread fear and help him politically, but it wouldn’t be useful to call out fake hate crimes. And this is the man we are supposed to trust to conduct an honest investigation into the Trump administration? These people are incompetent.
The Speaker of the House said this.
And again, it’s been deleted and she has not commented on it.
AOC, the Congresswoman with more Twitter followers, and arguably more influence than any other democrat, attacked people who used words like “possibly” and were skeptical, and said it WAS a racist and homophobic attack.
https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1090491674575454208
Don’t expect to hear anything from her.
Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, the “fresh new face” who said, “we’re going to impeach that mother fucker” when referring to Trump, said that “dangerous lies spewing from the right wing is killing and hurting people.”
"When one of the most famous black and gay men in America is not safe, the message is clearer than it has ever been." The dangerous lies spewing from the right wing is killing & hurting our people.
Thinking of you @JussieSmollett, and my LGBTQ neighbors.
https://t.co/edtIFWYAX1— Rashida Tlaib (@RashidaTlaib) January 30, 2019
Now that it’s been proven that it’s a hoax she has not said anything. Nor has Congressman Mark Takano.
Let’s call this disturbing attack what it is: a hate crime. It would be a disservice to the LGBTQ community and communities of color to ignore the heightened hateful rhetoric permeating at all levels. We must confront it and protect our communities against violence and hate. https://t.co/aE3LLkWsYJ
— Mark Takano (@RepMarkTakano) January 29, 2019
New York congressman Eric Swalwell said that hate crimes are “more frequent” (a lie), and that we must “reject speech” coming form right wingers.
What happened to Jussie Smollett is vile and tragic; thankfully, he will recover. But hate crimes like this are happening more frequently, egged on by careless hate-filled rhetoric. We start reducing these crimes by rejecting the speech – neither can ever be accepted as normal.
— Eric Swalwell (@ericswalwell) January 29, 2019
In other words, he was using this fake hate crime as an excuse to silence political speech. This is why you’re insane if you would even consider voting for a democrat in 2020. Because these people are looking for ways to spread lies in order to strip you of your liberties.
He hasn’t commented on falling for the hoax, but he did post this yesterday.
It’s snowing in #NewYork. I need coffee. The closest cafe is inside Trump Tower. This is me walking to an alternative. pic.twitter.com/RLb0tAy2yT
— Rep. Eric Swalwell (@RepSwalwell) February 20, 2019
He tweeted this less than 1/10 of a mile away from a Starbucks. Thank you for your service.
The media, which is supposed to report the news, did the opposite instead. They opined based on their own personal narratives. Jamil Smith works for Rolling Stone, which a few years ago wrote a blatantly made up column accusing a Virginia fraternity of gang raping a woman who made the whole thing up for attention. He called the imaginary attack on Smollett “terrorism.”
Thankfully, @JussieSmollett is reportedly in good condition. The brutal attack on him in Chicago appears to be yet another example not just of further moral decay, but of the brand of terrorism that still doesn’t seem to spark enough response by Americans. https://t.co/TQZbJYdXaO
— Jamil Smith جميل كريم (@JamilSmith) January 29, 2019
This is what Rolling Stone does to innocent people. Instead of owning it today he blamed the Chicago Police for killing unarmed civilians.
His point about hate crimes may prove to be true. But the Chicago police superintendent may want to work on improving the reputation of his own department, and stop them from killing unarmed civilians, before he complains about anyone else harming the city’s image. https://t.co/yIjXhwNJWE
— Jamil Smith جميل كريم (@JamilSmith) February 21, 2019
And he also blamed “cowards” who are less likely to believe unbelievable stories like this moving forward.
Nothing good will come of this. Leaving Jussie’s fate and motives aside for the moment, I fear that we don’t know the true victims yet. There will be folks who use this as justification for not believing accusers of every stripe. They were already cowards. https://t.co/dzZ24TEoL5
— Jamil Smith جميل كريم (@JamilSmith) February 21, 2019
April Ryan, who called Trump a racist months ago when he wouldn’t take her question at a press conference, had this to say.
This attack on @JussieSmollett is a hate crime and should be treated as such! https://t.co/X7nvpycpiL
— AprilDRyan (@AprilDRyan) January 29, 2019
She has reported that it was a hoax, but she has not offered an apology for immediately opining that what happened to Smollett was a hate crime.
Onto the celebrities.
Let me start with Sophia Bush.
https://twitter.com/SophiaBush/status/1090363403980308480
I pick her because she was an actress on the hit show Chicago PD. The real Chicago PD wasted countless man hours on this hoax when they could’ve been protecting the people of Chicago.
Al Sharpton has made a career out of this, and initially demanded that Trump denounce the attackers.
To his credit he is now saying Smollett must be held accountable.
“Activist and MSNBC commentator the Rev. Al Sharpton said on his program, "Politics Nation," #JussieSmollett should be held accountable if he is behind the attack. "I among many others, when hearing of the reports, said that the reports were horrific…”- https://t.co/OYOsHDY0kQ
— Reverend Al Sharpton (@TheRevAl) February 18, 2019
However, he has not held himself accountable, or offered an apology for blindly believing a story that was not even remotely plausible to begin with.
Other liberal celebrities who took the hoax at face value, used it to attack conservatives, and have not apologized or even commented on it since include Katy Perry.
Standing with and sending love to @JussieSmollett today… this is a racist hate crime and is disgusting and shameful to our country 😔#WeLoveJussie
— KATY PERRY (@katyperry) January 29, 2019
Emma Watson.
Disgusted by the ugly prejudice and bigotry behind this violence. Sending love to @JussieSmollett & to anyone that has been hurt by the hatred of those who fear difference. As a society, we continue to fail LGBTQIA+ communities and PoC. pic.twitter.com/FFRPIbhOip
— Emma Watson (@EmmaWatson) January 30, 2019
Kelly from The Office.
I am disgusted and horrified to hear of the homophobic and racial attack on Jussie Smollett last night. Unfortunately, these hateful attacks happen way too often. We must call out and hold those accountable. Sending love to you, Jussie.
— Mindy Kaling (@mindykaling) January 29, 2019
Andy Cohen.
https://twitter.com/Andy/status/1090289556081930240
Who instead of apologizing retweeted another lie about fake hate crimes not being common.
This is just patently untrue. We published a blog yesterday listing 72 documented fake hate crimes in the last 2 years alone. There are hundreds, if not thousands more, and there is no data that shows that 21,000 real hate crimes occurred during that time period.
Ellen piled on.
Four years ago, @JussieSmollett came out on my show. I’m sending him and his family so much love today. ❤️
— Ellen DeGeneres (@EllenDeGeneres) January 29, 2019
As did the ACLU.
LGBTQ people of color live at multiple intersections of oppression, too often facing violence compounded by both racism and homophobia.
This isn't the America we want to live in.
Our thoughts are with Jussie Smollett and all survivors. https://t.co/o9JG2z3VnG
— ACLU (@ACLU) January 29, 2019
Black Lives Matter activist Deray McKisson obviously didn’t miss out.
I don’t believe for two seconds that two MAGA guys were randomly in ski masks with had bleach readily available at a Subway at 2am in subzero temperatures in Chicago. They planned to harm Jussie.
— deray (@deray) January 29, 2019
He also slammed the local Chicago media who investigated this relentlessly, and blamed them for getting their information from (gasp) police.
I realized today that Chicago “reporter” @RaferWeigel is responsible for much of the misinformation disseminated by Chicago PD “sources” about #JussieSmollett as he literally just repeats whatever the police say.
— deray (@deray) February 6, 2019
Because using your influence to tell people not to trust the police is a responsible thing to do.
Shaun “Wack Panther” King was out there spreading misinformation like he always does, and even doing some investigating of his own.
For continuing coverage on the @JussieSmollett assault story, keep an eye on @shaunking and @TheNorthStar twitter feeds. They're all over the story of this hate crime! pic.twitter.com/uS2sJAJcvd
— PPN News ✴️ (@PPN_News) February 16, 2019
He took all of these tweets down and has not commented on it since.
Justin Mikita had this to say.
https://twitter.com/JustinMikita/status/1090289582292254723
But instead of learning from it he’s chosen to retweet that you should always jump to conclusions, as long as you can justify it in the name of “empathy and compassion.”
These people didn’t believe it because they’re empathetic or compassionate. They believed it because they hate Trump.
Fellow actor Tarell McCraney used the fake hate crime to turn himself into a potential victim.
https://twitter.com/octarell/status/1090288220343029761
Even though he couldn’t possibly be safer. He has not commented since, nor has Rosie O’Donnell.
https://twitter.com/Rosie/status/1090335502513795073
Or George Takei.
As a fellow #StonewallAmbassador, my heart goes out to @JussieSmollett. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, which launched the LGBTQ civil rights movement. This horrific incident underscores the struggle we still face. Thank you Jussie for your courage. https://t.co/RFnbu2dd2P
— George Takei (@GeorgeTakei) January 29, 2019
“Transgender” blue checkmark Nico Tortorella said that anyone wearing a MAGA hat was responsible for attacking Jussie.
https://twitter.com/NicoTortorella/status/1090365267702509569
No apology or comment since. Kind of like Mark Hamill.
Sending love & support to @JussieSmollett after this horrific attack. Shame on us if we don't protest & demand #JusticeForJussie! 💔 https://t.co/9M2bIPtfO5
— Mark Hamill (@MarkHamill) January 30, 2019
Viola Davis.
OMG!! THIS is why the LGBTQ community continue to fight to be seen and PROTECTED against hate!
We ALL have to take this racist and homophobic act of violence very personally! My arms are around you @jussiesmollett. You are loved! https://t.co/bprDZ3Luah
— Viola Davis (@violadavis) January 29, 2019
Ava Duvarney.
We love you, @JussieSmollett. We will protect you and support you and ride for you. You know who we are. 🖤 https://t.co/FLX8TxiFiw
— Ava DuVernay (@ava) January 29, 2019
She is one of the rare celebrities who has commented, and has chosen not to believe the facts that are clear as day in front of her because….fuck the po-lease.
Despite the inconsistencies, I can’t blindly believe Chicago PD. The department that covered up shooting Laquan McDonald over a dozen times? That operated an off-site torture facility? That one? I’ll wait. Whatever the outcome, this won’t stop me from believing others. It can’t.
— Ava DuVernay (@ava) February 17, 2019
Black Panther Chadwick Boseman chimed in.
https://twitter.com/chadwickboseman/status/1090614576398385153
As did Gabrielle Union.
No matter what's happening around us, @JussieSmollett is ALWAYS quick w/ a massive smile & hug. Thats the kind of man he is. The homophobic, racist hate crime against him & hate crimes against countless others cannot stand. Rebuke hatred any & every time it rears its ugly head.
— Gabrielle Union (@itsgabrielleu) January 29, 2019
Kathy Griffin, an actual psychopath, predictably fell for it.
https://twitter.com/kathygriffin/status/1090391779885510656
And hilariously said that white people like her “need to make our voices louder and stand taller for our minority brothers and sisters.”
https://twitter.com/kathygriffin/status/1090391781114429441
Did you read that black people? Please compliment her. She desperately wants to know that you saw that. She has not commented on the hoax since.
Terry Crews, the fakest dude in Hollywood, a man who has built his career on toxic masculinity and now pretends to abhor it, called that attack the definition of toxic masculinity.
I am questioned all the time about what defines toxic masculinity. Look no further than what just happened to @JussieSmollett . Get well brother🙏🏾🔥
— Terry Crews (@terrycrews) January 29, 2019
He’s right. There is no such thing as toxic masculinity, just like there was no such thing as the attack.
Shonda Rhimes insist that we REPORT THEM TO THE POLICE.
We ALL have a responsibility to rise up against the ignorance and hate out there. If you know who did this to @JussieSmollett, REPORT THEM TO THE POLICE.
— shonda rhimes (@shondarhimes) January 29, 2019
Oh, I know the answer to that one – it was Jussie Smollett.
Eugene Yang spread lies.
Anyone who turns bleach into a weapon is a danger to society.
Anyone who turns a rope into a noose is committing a hate crime.
Anyone who cannot recognize that queer black people continue to be physically attacked in this country is contributing to the problem. #JussieSmollett
— Eugene Lee Yang (@EugeneLeeYang) January 29, 2019
Olivia Munn spread lies.
https://twitter.com/oliviamunn/status/1090342691030806528
She has since been on Ellen, who shockingly did not ask her about it since she also fell for the lie.
https://twitter.com/oliviamunn/status/1098326275645554688
Ellen Page put on by far the most theatrical performance of them all.
.@EllenPage is fed up with leaders who promote hatred and intolerance. #LSSC pic.twitter.com/apxXzye5SF

— NowThis (@nowthisnews) February 7, 2019
All a lie, and she has not commented since because a hoax is not useful to her hatred towards Mike Pence.
Billy Eichner said there is “no part of me that doubts that Trump and MAGA culture have encouraged and emboldened these types of attacks.”
https://twitter.com/billyeichner/status/1090373479445291010
And said he wasn’t rooting for the Patriots because Tom Brady is MAGA, and likely supports hate crimes.
Amendment to this: This doesn’t mean you have permission to act like an asshole and I’m only rooting for the Rams cause Tom Brady’s MAGA hat can go fuck itself. 🇺🇸
— billy eichner (@billyeichner) February 2, 2019
He did take this one down though:
Which means he’s aware of the others and is choosing to keep them up.
Rob Reiner is one of the few that has taken his down.
He hasn’t commented but he has picked up right where he left off.
THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IS THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!
— Rob Reiner (@robreiner) February 20, 2019
And he will fall for the next one too.
Cher is completely insane, which means she’ll probably be speaking at the DNC in 2020.

John Legend, the wokest of the woke, shared his love for Jussie.
Sending love to Jussie and the Smollett family after this horrific attack. We support you and pray that you find peace and justice.
— John Legend (@johnlegend) January 29, 2019
He hasn’t commented yet, but he has been on Ellen, who once again did not ask him about Jussie Smollett.
still trying to figure out these floating shorts… https://t.co/DRq76LCoLa
— John Legend (@johnlegend) February 19, 2019
Vivica Fox hasn’t commented since this.
I'm just now hearing the news about the senseless hate attack on my #EMPiRE Nephew @JussieSmollett IM SO ANGRY AND HURT ABOUT THIS! THIS MUST STOP!! SPREAD LOVE NOT HATE! PRAYERS UP TO U NEPHEW! 😢😢🙇🏾♀️🙇🏾♀️ pic.twitter.com/p4GqfNW3An
— Vivica A. Fox (@MsVivicaFox) January 29, 2019
Nor has Jemele Hill.
I’ve met @JussieSmollett a few times at social events and he emanates warmth and joy. I’m just disgusted and appalled that he has suffered the unimaginable. Praying for him and his loved ones.
— Jemele Hill (@jemelehill) January 29, 2019
Reese Witherspoon took her tweet down but has not commented since.
Just like Tyler Perry.
And this guy is my personal favorite.
https://twitter.com/EricHaywood/status/1090286721286062080
Literally going to burn houses down based on a lie.
None of these people have learned anything from this. Maybe Alyssa Milano has because she’s literally dumber than your average 3rd grader, and really might not know that fake hate crimes are a thing.
The rest of them do, and are intentionally avoiding talking about it because they’re so obsessed with Trump that they can’t concede that they were duped by a charlatan who played them like a fiddle. You can vote however you please in 2020, but I truly fear living in a society where psychopaths like this are in charge. They act on impulses and are willing to destroy innocent people (mostly white conservative men) in order to advance their own careers.
