Former Canton Police Chief Ken Berkowitz died yesterday after a long battle with cancer.

Berkowitz was the Police Chief on the morning John O’Keefe’s body was discovered at Brian Albert’s house. He miraculously discovered tail light on February 4 after seeing it from a moving vehicle on Brian Albert’s lawn, despite the fact that his department had been conflicted out of the investigation.

On February 1 a reported tweeted for the first time that it was Boston Police Sgt. Brian Albert’s lawn that O’Keefe’s body was discovered on. Berkowitz sent the reporter a Facebook message asking him to speak on the phone. The reporter claims that Berkowitz then asked him on the phone to take the tweet down because Brian Albert was a “pillar of the community.”
“When this happened, I wasn’t working in news any longer and just tweeting news stories on my own. I tweeted about O’Keefe’s death – essentially saying, this is the house where he was found dead, online property records show it’s located at (whatever the address is) and owned by Brian Albert, a veteran Boston cop who appeared in (name of stupid cop show he was on). I got the above DM from Berkowitz.”
“I called him a half hour later. He asked me to take the tweet down, he said Brian Albert is a friend, a pillar of the community and he didn’t deserve to have his name smeared. I didn’t want to deal with his bullshit, so I said ok, hung up and deleted the tweet.”

Berkowitz retweeted a BPD tweet on February 1 announcing that the guilty party (Read) had been arrested.

Berkowitz was the boss of Kevin Albert, and was the chief when Albert got drunk in Michael Proctor’s cruiser and left his gun and badge behind.

Berkowitz was close friends with Brian Higgins, and gave Higgins an office inside the Canton Police Department. He was clearly enamored with Higgins due to the fact that Higgins was an ATF agent.

As Police Chief on January 29, 2022, Berkowitz would be aware of everyone who was inside the Police Department that day. Brian Higgins accessed the sally port garage 90 minutes before Read’s SUV was brought in. Video surveillance feed from the sally port garage at 5:36 when the car was delivered is missing. As police chief Berkowitz would be able to access that footage.
Higgins was allowed to mill around the Canton Police Department, moving cars around after drinking all day and night. Berkowitz called Brian Higgins immediately after John O’Keefe’s body was discovered, but Higgins missed the call. Instead, Higgins made sure to go to Brian Albert’s house and speak with him in person before calling Berkowitz back at 7:22 AM.
At Ken Berkowitz retirement party, which was organized by Higgins, Higgins reportedly made a joke saying:
“If you need to hide a body, Ken Berkowitz is your guy.”
Higgins’ speech has been deleted from the 2 hour video of the retirement party ceremony.
Berkowitz never had to testify about any of this because he had cancer. Beverly Cannone could’ve forced him to, but chose not to. Berkowitz never had to explain what he and Higgins spoke about at 7:22, he never had to explain how he saw a piece of tail light from a moving vehicle, or why he asked a reporter to remove a factual tweet about the location of a dead cop’s body.
For the sake of Ken Berkowitz’ soul I hope he left a note explaining his part in the coverup. He didn’t kill John O’Keefe, but he died knowing who did, and it wasn’t Karen Read.
