Canton Coverup Part 499: Karen Read Defense Team Adds Alternate Juror From First Trial Who Released Public Statement Condemning The Commonwealth

A new attorney has been added to Karen Read’s defense team according to the updated docket this morning. Her name is Victoria George, and she was one of the juror’s in the first trial who was chosen as an alternate after closing statements.
A few weeks ago after allegations of jury tampering were made in court, George decided to make a public statement via Kristina Rex using her real name:
I was a fair minded juror who left this trial questioning the integrity of the system long before the defense filed a motion to dismiss with allegations of jury tampering. It is the Read case itself – and the fact that it is still being brought – that has left many in Massachusetts wary, distrustful, and scared of our system.
As a lawyer, this reality saddens me even more because I remember how much faith I had in our system as a law student. Mr. Brennan made an impassioned argument today regarding his alleged concern that some might be questioning the fabric of our entire judicial system. If he truly would like to address that problem, I have a few suggestions. Perhaps the Norfolk County DA’s Office should be more focused on remedying the systemic issues plaguing it and affiliated police departments rather than continuing to spend millions of taxpayer dollars prosecuting a case with so many evidentiary issues that it calls into question whether they are even following their ethical obligations as prosecutors.
During the trial Victoria George and two other jurors made facial reactions that showed their disgust with the Commonwealth, particularly during Michael Proctor’s testimony. Conveniently, these were the 3 jurors who were not allowed to deliberate after closing arguments. George was not the juror who was reported by Lt. John Fanning for allegedly speaking about the trial at a bar. However, she was one of the 3 jurors who reported another juror for making negative comments on the bus about the faces Karen Read was making in court, leading to that juror’s dismissal. After she was chosen as an alternate she looked devastated and was seen crying. On the second day of deliberations she wore a pink dress, which many in the press noted.
Not only did Victoria George intend on voting not guilty, as a lawyer her skills at persuasion could’ve been useful when discussing the facts of the case. Many of the jurors could’ve gone either way, but the three woman with the strongest personalities were all eliminated by Clerk Jim McDermott, who never showed anyone the numbers he drew, or provided proof that all of the other jurors had their numbers in the raffle.
Her statement was a scathing indictment on the Commonwealth, and she spoke for many when she pointed out the absurdity of trying Karen Read for a second time, despite the obvious systemic issues with the police who investigated her.
Victoria George is not a criminal defense attorney, but is now listed as an attorney for David Yannetti’s law firm. In 2022 she was hired as a labor and employment attorney at Morgan, Brown, and Joy. It’s doubtful that she will sit with Read’s team at court, as she has no experience in this field and wouldn’t question any witnesses. However, adding her to the defense team makes her one of the most valuable jury consultants in the history of criminal court.
