Hank Brennan finally released a statement today in response to his devastating loss, in which Karen Read was acquitted on all charges related to killing John O’Keefe. One of the three substantive paragraphs is about the O’Keefe family and the case itself, and the other three are directly targeted to me:

This was done for one reason and one reason alone – to taint a potential jury pool in my trial. He wants it on the record that Karen Read was acquitted because I threatened witnesses (who he didn’t call), not because he is a failure.

Lets’ break this down piece by piece:

I am disappointed in the verdict and the fact that we could not achieve justice for John O’Keefe and his family.

An ethical prosecutor looking to calm everyone down would say he respects the jury’s verdict. Brennan never once says this in his statement. Instead he says he is “disappointed” in what 12 people, who gave up 3 months of their lives and spent 4 days carefully deliberating, ultimately decided. Ya got that? Those 12 people are at fault because they didn’t achieve “justice for John O’Keefe and his family.” They let him down. It had nothing to do with Brennan’s own professional failures, the problems with the investigation, or the undeniable fact that Karen Read could not have killed John O’Keefe. It’s the jury’s fault for disappointing him and the O’Keefe family. This is what his supporters would call a “dog whistle,” knowingly inciting the mob to continue to harass and intimidate jurors, who they will blame for Brennan’s failures.

District Attorney Michael Morrissey appointed me, giving me full discretion to independently assess the case and follow the evidence no matter where it led. After an independent and thorough review of all the evidence, I concluded that the evidence led to one person, and only one person. Neither the closed federal investigation nor my independent review led me to identify any other possible suspect or person responsible for the death of John O’Keefe.

The “closed federal investigation” determined that John O’Keefe wasn’t hit by a car because that’s what the ARCCA experts they hired told them. There were no other “possible suspects or persons responsible” because the police did nothing to investigate anyone else. Hank Brennan knows this.

The campaign of intimidation and abuse that has been waged, funded, and promoted in public and on social media is the antithesis of justice. If this type of conduct becomes commonplace, it will threaten the integrity of our judicial system, affecting both victims and criminally accused.

Funded? Brennan is accusing everyone who donated to Karen Read’s legal defense fund of paying for witness intimidation. This is an unhinged conspiracy theory that he is throwing out there to his mindless mob so that they will continue to attack jurors, Karen Read’s family, and her supporters.

Karen Read was acquitted without testimony from the vast majority of witnesses who claim to be intimidated by me. Karen Read was acquitted because 5-6 doctors gave testimony that John O’Keefe was not killed from a collision with a car. The witnesses who claim to be intimidated were not even called by Brennan because he knew the jury would not believe them.

We cannot condone witness abuse, causing participants to worry for their own safety or that of their families. It is my hope that with the verdict, the witnesses and their families will be left alone. The harassment of these innocent victims and family members is deplorable and should never happen again in a case in this Commonwealth.

Oh yes, the REAL victim here isn’t John O’Keefe or Karen Read. The real victims are Jennifer McCabe and Brian Albert. This is on brand for a sleazy defense attorney like Hank Brennan, who isn’t used to defend victims, he’s used to defending criminals.

My heartfelt condolences to the O’Keefe family and faith that over the coming years they will find peace and closure.

One sentence for John O’Keefe. That’s it. One sentence. That’s all John O’Keefe was to him. John’s family will never find peace or closure because Hank Brennan, the Norfolk County DA’s Office, and the corrupt Massachusetts State Police spent the last 3.5 years lying to them. They disrespected John in the worst possible way by not giving him the dignity of a proper investigation. They told them a fantasy story about Karen Read being responsible for John’s death so that they could protect the people who murdered John. They laughed at the O’Keefe’s behind their backs when they brought John’s killers to court with them. This is gaslighting at its finest.

Hank Brennan is a disgrace and this failure will follow him around for the rest of his miserable career and life. It is the ONLY thing he will be remembered for. He took over a million dollars from the taxpayers to try to lynch an innocent woman because Michael Morrissey thought his employee Adam Lally wasn’t good enough. But at the end of the day Lally convinced 8 or 9 people that John O’Keefe was hit by a car, and Hank Brennan convinced 0. That’s not my fault or Karen Read’s fault. That’s HIS fault. He was paid to do a job and failed completely. He was so humiliated that he didn’t even ask for a sentencing date on the OUI because he could never show his face in that courtroom again.

Justice won.

Karen Read won.

John O’Keefe won.

The good guys won.

Spanky and the forces of evil lost.
