Canton Coverup Part 525: Rapper Charged With Murder Freed On Bail Due To Incompetence And Corruption Of Michael Proctor And Adam Lally

In July of 2021 a 21 year old Milton man named Myles King was arrested for the murder of Marquis Simmons, who lived close by. The lead investigator in that case was Michael Proctor, and in Canton Cover-up Part 58 I detailed how differently Proctor investigated the murders of Simmons and John O’Keefe. In contrast to the investigation into Karen Read, Proctor was meticulous in obtaining surveillance footage showing King’s whereabouts before and after the murder. This included knocking on doors of private residences and businesses to ask for Ring footage, as well as obtaining footage from public institutions like a local elementary school. All of this was used to indict King.

Proctor didn’t ask a single Canton resident, who lived on the streets that Karen Read drove on while she returned from 34 Fairview Road to 1 Meadows Avenue on the morning of January 29, 2022, if he could look at their surveillance videos, despite the fact that it would show the condition of Read’s taillight after she allegedly struck O’Keefe with her car. If any of those videos showed a cracked taillight prior to her backing into John’s Traverse at 5:07 AM, it would strengthen the Commonwealth’s case against Read.

Yet Proctor didn’t try to obtain any surveillance video, despite the fact that a Boston cop was murdered which upset him to the point where he began sending horrific text messages about Read, and despite the fact that he had done so just 6 months previously on the Myles King case.

King was also indicted in November of 2021 over a 2019 incident, in which he was found by police outside the victim’s home (2 years prior) inside a stolen car, while in possession of a loaded firearm the the hammer cocked back, indicating it was ready to fire.

In this dying breaths the victim identified King as his killer.

Myles King is a bad dude with bad intentions, who is almost certainly guilty of murder. Of course by ghetto statute he must also be a rapper, who goes by the name Mizzie Cash. His videos on YouTube are filled with auto-tuned “music” in which he displays guns, drugs, and large amounts of cash that he clearly wants the viewer to believe came from the proceeds from drug sales.

But because Michael Proctor and the Norfolk DA’s Office are in charge of investigating and prosecuting this case, there is a chance this dangerous dude may go free.

Despite the fact that this case is four years old, the Commonwealth still has not given King’s defense attorney Rosemary Scapicchio a whole lot of discovery, including search warrants, police reports, crime lab reports, DNA case reports, surveillance videos, and a plethora of other evidence they intend to use at trial.

Sound familiar? This is a pattern in the NCDAO. They view Rule 14 demands as something they can get around to whenever they feel like it. In my case and in Karen Read’s case the Commonwealth took years to hand over outstanding discovery, and hid other exculpatory from the defense. We are still waiting on a whole bunch of discovery that was promised to us at my last hearing, but ended up with more than 4,000 blank pages instead.

As a direct result of this incompetence and/or corruption, Judge Doolin noted that this has unfairly delayed King’s trial, and kept him locked up on $1 million bail.

In this country even people like Myles King are innocent until proven guilty. Keeping them detained in jail prior to trial with bail that they can’t afford is a violation of their civil rights. Consequently, Judge Doolin lowered King’s bail to $100K on June 2, 2025, despite the fact that he noted that the case against King looks strong, and that the charges are serious.

Three weeks later Scapicchio asked the court to lower the bail to $2,500, which she said was all the defendant could afford, despite footage of him displaying more than that amount of cash in almost every rap video he has ever produced. Doolin ended up lowering King’s bail to $10K, even though he knows that the case against King for murder is strong. According to Doolin, the court agrees that the new discovery given to the defense “changes the direction of the case.”

 

King was able to pay this, and was released from jail in late June, at which time he immediately posted pictures of himself holding much more than $2,500 in cash, with the caption “bac from the dead.”

He has set up interviews in which he is advertised as the “hardest young n**** in Boston,” and has attended a court hearing on this matter.

Today an evidentiary hearing was held in which ADA Adam Lally was called to the stand to explain why he never handed over discovery, which ultimately was the reason why an alleged violent killer was set free on bail. When he was asked why he didn’t grill Proctor about the outstanding discovery in a murder case Lally said that he followed up with Proctor several times but never got it. He said he would normally go to Proctor’s boss Brian Tully and ask him for it, but that he doesn’t “recall” if he ever did that with Tully. Despite having several discovery hearings he never once notified the court that the police were allegedly stonewalling him on discovery requests.

In other words, he is blaming the State Police, while also admitting that when the State Police violate the law he doesn’t do anything about it. Today’s hearing ended after 2 hours and was continued to August 5. Michael Proctor is also set to testify on that date.

This is the problem with Adam Lally that we saw throughout the Karen Read case – he doesn’t care if investigators compromise his case by violating the civil rights of the defendant. He blindly trusts them and is afraid to stand up to them, since they work for his boss Michael Morrissey.

It’s notable that Beverly Cannone cancelled a scheduled evidentiary hearing in the Read case set for May 25, 2023, so this could not happen in regards to outstanding discovery that was being withheld from the defense. She intentionally prevented the defense from holding hearings that would show the world just how corrupt and incompetent the DA’s Office was, which could’ve led to the charges being dropped prior to trial. She did this because she likes being the controversial judge on TV.

For years the DA’s Office and the State Police have operated however they felt like. They have ignored the law and judge’s rulings because they knew that no one was gonna do anything about it. It may have been highlighted in the Read case, but clearly that case was not an anomaly. Governor Healey has done nothing about this because she knows Karen Read is innocent and isn’t a threat to public safety if she is free. But what happens when people like Myles King and Brian Walshe, who are actual threats to the community, start getting freed?
