According to multiple sources within the Boston Police Department, Officer Kelly Dever resigned this afternoon, months after she made national headlines with her combative, implausible testimony in the Karen Read murder trial. Our sources report that she walked into the Jamaica Plain Police District and handed in her badge and gun, which is not the normal way officers resign. As of now she is still listed on the POST Commission’s website.

We are awaiting official confirmation from BPD, but this has been reported to me by 2 sources.

Last month Attorney Alan Jackson wrote a letter to BPD Commissioner Michael Cox, demanding that she be put on the Brady List, as a result of her testimony that she had a “false memory” when she told FBI agents that she saw Ken Berkowitz and Brian Higgins alone with Karen Read’s vehicle in the Sallyport garage on January 29:

“It is clear, therefore, that one of two things is true: Either Officer Dever lied about having a false memory, or she actually suffers from a condition that subjects her to false memories. In either case, her credibility and reliability as a law enforcement officer are irreparably compromised,” Jackson wrote in his letter.

“If she lied under oath, Officer Dever is guilty of perjury. If she truly suffers from false memories, she is unfit to serve as a police officer. Her reports, statements, and testimony can no longer be presumed accurate, and any case—current or prior— involving Officer Dever must be reviewed accordingly,” Jackson added.

“Failure to disclose Officer Dever’s intentionally false testimony and/or her false memory condition would be a constitutional violation, subjecting both the prosecution and the Boston Police Department to severe sanctions, the least of which is the dismissal of every case she touches,” Jackson concluded.

Dever testified that she had a meeting with Commissioner Michael Cox prior to changing her story, to discuss her impending testimony. When asked about that meeting in July Cox completely denied discussing the Read case with Dever, but didn’t deny inviting her up to his office. Perhaps this was a sign that he was planning on throwing her under the bus, as it was suggested at trial that he had told her to “do the right thing” prior to her testimony.

The BPD union has been noticeably silent and has made no attempts to publicly defend Dever. BPD was also noticeably absent throughout Read’s two trials, which is abnormal when a police officer is killed. Our sources report that most Boston Police Officers believe that Brian Albert and his family were involved in the murder of John O’Keefe, and did not support the prosecution of Read.

Dever is not a victim at all. If she did indeed resign as our sources are reporting, it’s because she knew that her career as a police officer was going to end soon. She likely did not feel supported on the job, as the brass she seemed to want to impress ended up throwing her under the bus. Some have suggested that she was in a tough position, but she really wasn’t. It’s not hard to not be corrupt. You can be an honest cop like Nicholas Barros, but she aspired to be Yuri Bukhenik instead. I don’t doubt for a second that Commissioner Cox called her up to his office to talk about her testimony in the Read case. She could’ve easily told the truth and Cox wouldn’t be able to do shit about it. But she’s a coward who lied to impress shitty people, and now she got exactly what she deserved. Hopefully she’s destitute and miserable. She deserves it for what she tried to do to Karen Read and John O’Keefe, in order to keep her stupid job that she reportedly no longer has.

  1. Really, I feel she has great promise in rachet madness. I know she probably won’t win but come on we all seen her a lying cop in the middle of a innocent police officer murder. Jen McCabe ain’t got nothing on her

  2. If this Dever story is true, then justice has prevailed — as far as Dever is concerned. But if she still gets into legal trouble due to her false testimony, then justice may prevail yet again.

  3. Da Da Da…… Another one bites the dust. That miserable lying B*tch made her own bed. Now slap on a perjury charge.

  4. Tip of the iceberg. The entire government of that place needs to be flushed of all of the you-know-what that has been exposed to the world. I cannot wait for that to happen.

  5. She was in a tough position. When you are out in the field you want to know that when you call for backup, that backup doesn’t dawdle. So she decided to be compliant. Maybe she also weighed the institutional corruption and realized that her only avenue was to lie for these fucks to save herself. Good luck with that, hon. You gave up the dignity, honor, and memory of a fallen fellow officer, JOK. Did you think no one would notice? She came across as a real c**t on the stand and a totally unsympathetic bitch devoid of moral character. She embarrassed herself and the badge she wore. Fuck her. She got what she deserved. Have an ounce of self respect and stand up for your values if you have any. Obviously she doesn’t.

    1. Thank you for acknowledging that even though she’s a lying bitch she was in a tough position. If fellow officers felt she was crossing the line they would have absolutely started showing up later and later to her requests for backup. Her coms systems would magically be down when she would need things as well. She should have absolutely told the truth and resigned. There are so many careers she could have chosen that would look favorably on her going against the blue line and walking away rather than lie.

      1. What backup?? What waiting?? In multiple police jobs with multiple police agencies between canton and boston it sounds like this stupid bitch never left the yard. Maybe every so often when she ran out of glitter and stickers to play with they let her sit in some of the vehicles and honk the horn and turn on the pretty lights for awhile. She was a brain damaged dei moron and department fluffer and that’s it. Only real question is whether or not she ever fucked the dogs too. And given her googly-eyed cluster B performance on the stand and her overall general countenance . . .well. . .

  6. Wow.. imagine her life now. Young female made the wrong choice for sure, under pressure and perhaps threatened too. I’m not defending her actions and decision to side with the wrong people, though yet a young female possibly scared in a man’s world, BPD!!

    1. Give me a break. This is 2025, not 1925. Women need to take responsibility for their wrong choices and stop blaming men. Scared my a**. Dever made her bed. Let her sleep in it.

    2. “Failure to disclose Officer Dever’s intentionally false testimony and/or her false memory condition would be a constitutional violation, subjecting both the prosecution and the Boston Police Department to severe sanctions, the least of which is the dismissal of every case she touches,” Jackson concluded.

What part of this are you not comprehending?
Recall Annie Duchan & the drug convictions that had to be tossed out because she tainted ‘some’ testing at the Mass State Lab. How much $$ were lost to the State then?
Think about Officers Proctor’s cases… will they have to be overturned also?

      1. Every single case the now disgraced ex-Trooper Proctor was involved with should be looked at under a microscope. How would you feel if he investigated a case that, hypothetically speaking, involved you?

  7. She made her choice…don’t believe it for a second, no one twisted her arm…what I don’t think people understand is that she may not have gotten the warm response from her fellow patrol officers at BPD after her testimony…many of the patrol officers never believed that KR was responsible for JOK’s passing…like most in this case, she read the room wrong and chose the wrong side….my guess is this is just the beginning.

  8. Diva planned this out just to win Ratchet Madness! How is the Commish not in hot water? He is the one who told his officer to lie about the murder of another one of his officers on the lawn of a celebrity Boston cops house and he claimed not to know anything about it?! Called it a “Big to do about nothing”. That is not a leader. That is a coward and I’m surprised more people haven’t followed up on the one reporter asking him questions

  9. She’s going to collect Big Time.
She wouldn’t quit unless there was a payout. Guessing she’s got immunity and can cash in with her story.

  20. The only hope she has of redeeming herself and her life is to go to the FBI and tell them everything she knows.
Maybe it will help them prosecute the real peices of shit that killed John O’Keefe. But, something tells me, because it happened in Corruptachusetts, Cox and the BPD gave her a sweetheart kiss goodbye provided she doesn’t talk. And they’re all scum including the Canton and State Police!
Numerous people should get punished – justice for John O’Keefe!

  21. lots of wild takes here. this girl didn’t ask for any of this. and when it came she wasn’t equipped to deal with it. not even close.

should she have told the truth about what commissioner cox said to her? sure. but what did she think was going to happen if she did that? and why did she think that?

At the end of the day everyone acts in what they believe to be their best self-interest.

  22. guess she wasn’t lying on the stand when she told us that exactly what she says in the stand here today determines whether i keep my job or not. they told her to do the right thing and she didn’t . she deserves to lose her job and she will never work again as an officer. she shot her on self in the foot. told them folks karma was coming.

  23. OK, ratchet friends; here we go for some huge Ratchets:

    1. Dever not bad. Its the fat black dude at BPD. Corrupt as they go. Not his fault, just a sheep like his mama told him to be.
    2. TB was right, she tried to be bad because that was the only way out. So the jury should see the lies. So, the alternative is the truth. Now we see.
    3. I would hire Dever any day. She kept code without keeping code. She lied on oath, but not enough for feds to do something. Try that trick, naysayers. Doubt your limp dick could ever get up like that. Prob never did.
    2. Sure cops got it tuff, that’s why they get the glory. So they can ICE you. Mo money. The avg. ICE guy is a C at level 2 in HS. Now is his chance to tangle with the Level 0 A’s.
    3. Now to one of my main points, and it’s prob been said: Keefe was no angel. He hung KR out to dry by her chaperoning him all over town fukkin hammered. He played shotgun totally immune if they got pulled over. This fuk put her in huge danger with the aura of his badge. Why should KR drive this megalomaniac around town so he could pick fights with other dumb ass cops. They all got the effluence of their collective arrogance. Keef being Hamlet in the effin play. KR is lucky to get out of this cop code BS. Sorry, TB maniacs, Keefe killed himself and almost pinned it on his girlfriend. At the end of the day, Keefe is more guilty of KR’s trouble than the dope fukk heads at 34. She actually had the presence of mind to not go in. Keefe did not. Suicide by booze and pride.

  24. Kelly Dever has to be the dumbest police officer I ever witnessed. All she had to do was tell the truth! She blew her entire career defending scumbags that don’t care about her. Had she told the truth she would still have her credibility and maybe she wouldn’t be a Boston cop anymore, but she could still be a police office somewhere where corruption isn’t laced throughout the department. The community would have hailed her as honest and her reputation would be sterling by telling the truth … instead she took the low road and now she is damaged goods. I wouldn’t hire her for any job as she is clearly a liar and not to be trusted.
