In the last few weeks we’ve seen a handful of teachers make their way onto TB Daily News for getting arrested at Antifa rallies, and even calling students racist for wearing doo-rags. I am of the belief that teachers should stick to teaching, rather than brainwashing kids with propaganda. Sadly, many teachers do not subscribe to this philosophy.
This is Diman Regional Tech High School teacher (in Fall River) Lindsey Wood.
She reacted to the recent shooting death of a black woman by a Fort Worth police officer by whitesplaining on Instagram why you should never call the cops if you see a black person in distress.
The woman who was killed in Fort Worth died because a rogue, nervous, trigger happy cop didn’t follow his training. More white people are killed by the cops every year than any other race. Anyone who preaches that you should not call 911 when a black person needs help, because they presume that a racist white cop will kill the black person in distress, has no business teaching. It’s racist and dangerous because cops save the lives of people of all races every single day. What if one of her students sees a black or brown person getting beaten up and robbed. This is Fall River, and she likely has plenty of students of color. Should they not call the police? Of course they should. So then why is this teacher telling kids they shouldn’t because “some people did something” 2,000 miles away?
As a former teacher I respect the fact that teachers are allowed to have personal opinions outside of school, but I draw the line when they encourage dangerous behavior. And that’s exactly what this teacher is doing.
