Hockey Parent Who Started Fight With Rival Dad Identified As James Benting Of Lakeville, Owes Multiple 5 Digit Court Judgments, Ran FKR Fundraising Event At Gillette Stadium

 

Last night I published a story about a viral video showing two angry hockey parents fighting and yelling degrading comments about their children in front of horrified kids in the stands and on the ice.

I asked the public if they were able to identify anyone in the video, and at least half a dozen people sent us the name of this guy:

 

I named his Donnie Dipshit, but his real name is James Benting, from Lakeville.

He is apparently infamous around town for being a douchebag, and shockingly it’s not his first time being kicked out of a hockey arena for fighting. A post on WTW Mass Instagram account says that Benting has longstanding issues with Stevie Sausages, whose real name is reportedly Jimmy Conway, and Conway’s friend previously fought Benting at a kid’s hockey game before.

According to one emailer, Benting is out of control, has been for a while, and is involved in fundraising that some have questioned the validity of:

Donnie Dipshit is James Benting. Hockey dad/coach/official and just all-around problem child. You can find him either bitching or being bitched about on the many local youth hockey Facebook pages. He also has his hand in some kind of “team fundraising” stuff going on that I know some people have questioned the validity of. Scumbag is the term most people would use in describing him.

Stevie Sausages is a guy named Jimmy Conway. I don’t really know much about him other than the fact that he used to coach the 2012 birth year Boston Jr Terriers Elite team. Bunting’s kid played at least a year for Conways Terriers team. There are different levels of the youth hockey club scene. Elite is the top of the pyramid. Talented kids and heavily invested parents. Most think their kids are getting a D1 scholarship and that’s what drives these nuts acting this way.

Another part of this story is a website that used to exist, but has been gone for years, called the Icehockeydboard. This website drew all the lunatics. Monday mornings on that site used to be an absolute free for all. People were allowed to post anonymously so it was absolutely insane. Someone could post whatever they wanted about another player/team/coach/organization and it would stay up on the site for days before ever being removed(if it was ever removed) Benting lived on the dboard. I’ll look and see if I have any pictures of any old posts from the dboard to give you an idea of what it was like. Think your old comment section but all stories about youth hockey bs.

Other emails confirmed what had been reported:

Hey TB hope you are well…you may have gotten info already on that parent hockey fight…but just in case the fat slob that attacked the guy in the stands his name is James Benting…my son played with his a couple years ago and he and his wife define the word ratchet…I think they live in Lakville, MA. James from what I understand has been black balled from coaching, he was a hockey ref. also and has been black balled from doing that. He and his wife are the type of parents that if there kid is getting beat they start chirping at the other teams parents most of the time escalating into what happened in that video. I cant count how many rinks he has been kicked out of or how many altercations he has gotten in. Just sitting here typing I can hear his wive’s Mass Trash Ratchet  voice in my head, you can hear her in the background of that video. 

As it turns out, Benting is a Karen Read supporter who ran a fundraiser at Gillette stadium in which 12% of sales from working concession stands went to the legal defense fundraiser:

I’m not suggesting that anything shady happened with that fundraiser, but from my experiences with t-shirt grifter lady Donna Bisbal, not everyone who suddenly showed up and started raising money for Karen Read could be trusted. And as it turns out, James Benting has a long and documented history of not paying his bills. He has civil cases in Plymouth Superior Court, Plymouth District Court, and 7 different cases in Wareham District Court.

Capital One is suing him for $9,362.57 that he owes them.

That judgement was issued because he didn’t show up for court and defaulted, but he did what he has done several other times in cases where default judgments were issued against them – filed motions to vacate the default judgment because there was “confusion” that caused him not to show up.

Barclay’s is owed $22,415.82.

He never paid back J.P. Morgan $17,969.74, and once again didn’t show up to court and then filed a motion to vacate the default.

Then there’s the $10,738.90 he owed in school loans, forcing the Mass Educational Financing Authority to bring him to court.

He tried getting out of that lawsuit by countersuing because the debt collector who called him didn’t properly identify themselves, but that was dismissed.

Discover Bank sued him for $17,384.37.

His response to that lawsuit was that he had no knowledge of the account being opened in his name.

It wasn’t me!

You’ll never guess what happened when a default judgment was issued against him….

Nothing is ever his fault.

Mass Educational Financing sued him again in 2025, and once again he defaulted and filed a motion to vacate the default.

He was sued again in Superior Court in April, defaulted, and has a next court date of July 17.

 

In that case he let someone named Naveah Rayne Mauricio-Benting drive his car, and she crashed into some poor landscaper on his way to work, causing him to be injured in miss job opportunities.

Not sure what relation Naveah is to him, but they’re listed as family on his Facebook page.

Also, he and his wife filed for divorce last year, but then they said “fuck it” and stayed together so they could continue to enjoy these lovely Saturday afternoons fighting other parents at hockey arenas.

Because if you can’t pay your bills, then you’re definitely not gonna be able to afford divorce attorneys, so you may as well just live together and be miserable.

As hilarious as this fight wise, it as also horrific for kids who had to watch and provided horrible modeling for how grownups should act as youth sporting events. I firmly believe that public shaming is the best way to fix shitty behavior, and that people like James Benton and Jimmy Conway should be shamed into behaving properly.
